Maybe Coffee Is Called For?

It looks like Philemon wants to stay awake but once he dozes off and awoken by a lightening bolt he is not so happy to have been awoken.

This is going to be hard to relate to Real Estate except maybe to the home Seller who is thinking "I must Sell". Then when there is no interest in the property by potential Buyers they doze off into the contentment of staying. Then Ka-Boom an offer comes in and they don't know what to do.

I experienced this about 30 years ago when I moved to a small town that went through a boom and bust cycle. Nearly every home had a For Sale sign in the window but when I went to the door they were surprised that sign was still there and they were no longer selling their home. It could have been frustrating but I actually found it funny.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Good morning, Bob... that actually is quite funny that sellers forgot their homes were on the market for sale! I'm assuming their agents had done so, as well.

Nina Hollander, Broker , My Love.

The town was a mining/power plant town that once was near 5,000 in population the days the plant and mine were being built. Given it's rural location the nearest Realtor was 50 miles away so most folks just had a FSBO sign in the window.

Bob "RealMan" Timm well, that certainly explains it. I'm amazed some local self-enterprising person didn't get a license to sell real estate in that town.

I was surprised as well Nina Hollander, Broker . When I left that town for Minot I hired an agent out of Bismarck ND 50 miles away. People were surprised at how fast the home sold and soon real Real Estate signs started popping up.

Good morning Bob. Some sellers just don't understand the process. Where is their agent, eating donuts and drinking coffee? Enjoy your day.

It was a small Red Neck community with the attitude: "Realtor, we don't need no stinkin Realtor". These were all FSBO's

Oops, I forgot all about that sign! I doubt that's something I'd do!

As for thunderstorms, I can sleep through them so they wouldn't bother me at all.

For the most part I am the same way Kat Palmiotti , I sleep very well in the rain BUT if a bolt of lightning is so close it rocks the house that will open my eyes for about 20 seconds.

Coffee has never been a go-to for me when I want to stay awake and I usually have a more difficult time falling asleep than staying awake, haha.

Falling asleep has never been a problem for me Brian England unless I am very upset over an event in my life. Caffeine seems to have no effect on me. I can drink two pots of coffee just before bedtime and still fall fast asleep.

Hi Bob,
Your story reminded me of a time when I knocked on the door of a home listed for sale, and the guy who opened the door informed me they were the new owners. Apparently, the owner sold the home and didn't bother to tell his agent.  I suspect there were some legal implications over that.

That is really crazy Carol Williams . So his agent didn't know the house had been sold? Or was it a case that the agent did not post to the MLS that it sold and kept his/her sign up?

Wow Bob, they forgot their home was on the market and the sign in the window.  Interesting.

The signs were usually in a cluttered kitchen window and probably just sat there for years if not even decades Will Hamm .

Bob "RealMan" Timm - I do not like when agents neglect to remove their signs in my area. But your story tops the cake! What an interesting history about the town and the subject of a boom or bust community. I have good friends who were investors that gave me a lot of business. When they finally retired, they invited me over for a visit to their new home, which was far, far away. Of course, I listed their home locally but wasn't involved in the purchase of their retirement home. To make a long story short, I was surprised to pass through what also appeared like a boom or bust community with so many vacant stores and not even a coffee shop or gas station. When I got to my friend's house and mentioned my drive they told me, that was something they were specifically looking for when they bought their house. They did not want to live around people, and they showed me the real estate sign that the listing agent never picked up.
