OKTOBERFEST
Saturday, Oct. 5, from 4-8 p.m., Golf Course Parking Lot
Celebrate the season with a free concert of German-style music and good cheer, with beverages available to purchase (cash only). Lederhosen is optional (but you’ll look fabulous)! Also, for $25 per person, get a delicious German-style meal and seating under the tent – registration for the meal and seating is required at the Lifestyle offices in either clubhouse.
FIESTA MEXICANA
Saturday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium
Grupo Fenix, comprising artists and musicians, play live music, and Grupo Los Quetzales Mexican Dance Ensemble, performs dances from several regions of Mexico. Sponsored by Hispanos de Leisure World. Tickets are $15, checks only, at the Lifestyle offices in both clubhouses.
METEROLOGIST
Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium
Jason Samenow, chief meteorologist for The Washington Post’s Capital Weather gang, discusses how climate change is affecting weather extremes in the Washington, D.C. area. Sponsored by the Fireside Forum. Free.
FIRE SAFETY SYMPOSIUM
Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m., Clubhouse I
In recognition of National Fire Prevention Week, speakers from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, Leisure World, and other organizations will discuss fire safety. A light lunch is provided. Sponsored by the Emergency Preparedness Committee. Free; registration not required.
MOVIE: ‘THE BURIAL’
Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium
Inspired by true events, a lawyer (Jamie Foxx) helps a funeral home owner (Tommy Lee Jones) save his family business from a corporate behemoth, exposing a complex web of race, power and injustice. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II.
