The other day I came across this quote by General and President George Washington. His words ring so true today as they rang yesterday.
Human happiness and moral duty
are inseparably connected.
When our actions reflect our morals, our values, our character, happiness is truly an essential result. For example, the other day as I was returning to my truck from a quick trip to the store, an elderly lady (presuming she was older than myself) was putting her groceries in the back of her SUV. I noticed a cane. So I walked up to her and politely asked with a sincere smile if I could return her grocery cart to the cart corral. This lady returned my smile with a huge smile and a big thank you.
How often do we take those small acts of kindness and we not only make others "got happy," but ourselves as well? Of course, those who came before us and are still with us, recognized the connection between our thoughts, our actions, our morals and our happiness.
"Happiness is not something ready made.
It comes from your own actions."
Dalai Lama
"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature."
Marcus Aurelius
"Happiness depends upon ourselves."
Aristotle
Action may not always bring happiness;
but there is no happiness without action.
Benjamin Disraeli
"The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things."
Henry Ward Beecher
And here is a "Got Happy" tune that should remind you
to be happy today and tomorrow.
