Real Estate Sales Advice-Other Agents Are Not The Enemy
Years ago(back when the only Hulu we had was within a hoop) I went visit an agent buddy at his office. Being sales guys, after a few minutes the conversation shifted to food. We decided to have lunch and he collected his things. Then my friend did something odd...He locked his office door. "Doug, I don't want another agent stealing my leads". I remember at the time thinking how dark this was. Over the years I've notice most agents are honest. Let's examine how other agents CAN be our buddies...
1) We can learn from others-- Mistakes in real estate often cost a commission check. Even in a modest market that's THOUSANDS of dollars. Have lunch or coffee with agents who are productive. Go over your deals. You can learn from them, and they from you!
2) Nothing beats a competent Co-broke agent-- Well written/clearly worded documents, promptly returned phone calls, a cheerful disposition. The right agent on the other end of the transaction can make a carefree deal. The agent you treat like a jerk today may be on the other side of a deal in the near future.
3) Regardless of the market, there is plenty of business-- The great Ben Kinney once shared this at an ActiveRain Camp (REALLY COOL EVENT BACK IN THE DAY) No agent will command more than a small percentage of the market. As a result, don't fear another agent taking all your business. There's plenty to go around!
4) Agents will often become your closest friends-- This industry is unique (read nuts) on many levels. As such, the best person to understand your life is a fellow agent. So don't be a jerk!
In this business open arms are more effective than locked doors. Be ethical, carry your weight in the deal, and repeat. Make it a Great Day!
