Friday Fun..Pumpkins

For several weeks I’ve seen pumpkins everywhere. My H-E-B has green pumpkins, white ones (I love white pumpkins), and traditional orange pumpkins. There are ones small enough for a child to carry and Texas sized pumpkins.

There are also pumpkins with bumps all over them, tall ones and short ones. And some that look perfect for carving!

Larry and I used to carve pumpkins each Halloween. Living in the south, you learn that carving too early could result in rotted, sunken orange ick!

Our pumpkins fell in the traditional/not-so-creative category. I love seeing what other, more artistic pumpkin carvers create.

Inasmuch as neither one of us wants to try to make something out of the insides of the carved pumpkin, we opt now for faux pumpkins!

So for some Friday Fun…what about you?  Will you be carving any pumpkins this year?

And…if you do carve one, what do you do with the stuff inside???  Pie, cupcakes????

I don't know about carving pumpkins, but I sure do love pumpkin rolls, haha.  FYI, something seems to be wacko with your blog signature, maybe it is just on my end though.

Hello Kathy - while I know there are many fans of all things pumpkin that have stretched my sense of imagination, I still enjoy seeing pumpkins piled high in places they gather this time of year (like grocery stores and plentiful patches).  They are full of possibilities. But not for this guy who isn't to be trusted with a carving utensil.

Hi Michael Jacobs I love seeing them that way as well. I would be happy to watch if any of my nephews or niece wanted to carve one, especially since their parents would have to clean it up! LOL

So, I love pumpkin pie. When the season starts I know I will be able to get the canned pumpkin (not doing it from scratch) and make a pie  :)

No carving here, we did go to a pick your own pumkin place on Sunday with friends, walked through the Corn Maze and then lazily chose from the already picked pumpkins and gourds.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 it's been so hot here I don't know how long a real one would last outside if carved. I always like stopping at whatever church or scout troop is selling them.

Kathy, Pumpkin carving has always been a family tradition for us. As a matter of fact, I found my pumpkin carving tools hidden in one of our kitchen drawers the other day and have it ready to start the fun!

I use to carve pumpkins when my kids were at home.  Later in life now, I have opted for ceramic or "faux" pumpkins.  I put some on my porch this morning.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat we're the same way!  The faux ones are easier to keep and the animals won't get to them.

Hi Kathy:

There is an amazing array of pumpkins - shapes, sizes, colors, warts, etc.  We no longer carve pumpkins but know that all the grandkids will. We're looking forward to photos. No doubt the local pumpkin patch is doing a great business right now!

I love these knucklehead pumpkins!

Kathy, I will not be carving.  I have already been out and cleaning the needles and leaves you see pictured in my Friday Flag post.  Those get stuffed into Orange pumpkin bags every year to line the drives and frame the different areas I decorate.  Obviously pics to follow.  lol   m

There is no pumpkin carving here.  The Phoenix heat isn't kind to pumpkins.  And we have these pesky civilians that like to come by and eat them, leaving a mess behind!
