Hi Jeff- interesting question!  I'd have to say I remember my neighbors and how much fun the kids had playing games and riding our bikes through the neighborhood.

Hi Kathy. I think of my generation also riding bikes through the old hood and coming home at dinner time. There still probably are neighborhoods like that but not as many.

Great post, Jeff! Childhood homes hold such sentimental value, and recreating those cherished memories in a new home is a wonderful way to pass that legacy to future generations. For anyone looking to build lasting memories in a scenic and peaceful setting, Big Bear Lake is a fantastic option that offers cozy homes with beautiful outdoor spaces.

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI - I definitely remember the neighborhood where I started out since birth until I left to get married. Plus, the house was in our family name until my parents passed away.

I think I appreciated what I had from my childhood experience more after I became an adult than when I didn't know anything else to compare it with. Best memories:

1) Having my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins in the same building I grew up. We all had different flats and the building belonged to my grandparents.

2) Having friends of both sex to play with. Sine all I had was 4 sisters, it was so much fun to learn how to play baseball and pitch pennies with the boys. Plus, adult neighbors I knew my whole life always took the time to talk to me and ask me about school or other interesting topics.

3) Being able to go outside late at night and my parents didn't have to worry.

4) Being in walking distance to the Dairy to buy milk in a glass bottle with cream on top, walking to the bakery shop early in the morning when the bread was freshly baked, walking to the Pizza Shop to watch the Pizza Man in the window throw the dough up in the air and catch it.

5) Being comfortable to sing and play with the kids on the block and nobody left anyone out because of age and no one was ever shunned or bullied.

6) Walking to school and walking on top snow heaps along the curb in Chicago pretending they were mountains!

Great memories Endre. So what memories from those first homes (although the homes may have been simple) are a part of YOUR home today? Jeff

Hello Jeff - the post from Kathy Streib today made me realize I missed yours when it was originally published.  I am fortunate in many ways, and one is that my mom still lives in the home where I grew up.  While much has changed about the house and neighborhood, there are countless memories I can experience.

Having Mom or a family member still owning the family home is  a blessing I think. Keeping those memories secure. Thank you Michael. Jeff

Oh those childhood memories of home! Mine are of the friends I had in the neighborhood and how we played outside all day into the evening. I lived there from the age of 6 until I got married and moved out at age 20. We had a small back yard with beautiful burning bush shrubs and a small above ground pool to splash around in and learn to swim. Fond memories of family holidays and neighbors who we loved like family!
