The Real Estate Oak Tree; Two Nuts That Stood Their Ground

They say the best time to plan an Oak tree was 20 years ago and the second best time is now. I would like to think that present day planting requires more planning and nurturing these days so you have a better cultivating process even though present day timing may bring about more toxins and risk of the wrong mixture of ground feed may bring less than desirable results.

Waukesha County Real Estate sure evolved to be a different beast these days. When I first thought of geting into real estate it was rather elementary. You sat at a desk, with a desk phone ( push buttons were in and gone were the phones that required dialing.

Every Tuesday the Merrill Lynch delivery man would bring the MLS A and B books. The A book would be for Milwaukee County and the B book would be for all the other areas combined. I would ripped the A book into sections for my buyers that were interested in certain areas and based on increasing price that the book was set up like. 

The B book had different counties and then broken down into areas and then by price. I really ripped that book into pages. Being busy I slurged for a extra set of books and hoped my $10 investment panned out. Tom Braatz, the market sure has changed with technology hasn't it. That is a resounding yes.

There were no cell phones or Internet. I would drive potential sellers nuts by repetative calling accompanied with rather creative mailers. It must have been my psuedo charm but I would always carry 25-35 listings at a time and at the time you would be happy if you were able to get a property under contract within 90 days. All those beautiful properties in Waukesha County that were nice which averaged $50,000 to $70,000 and then bread and butter homes were about $40,000. Forget the Lake homes unless you were ready to sprind over a $100K for those bad boys. Stamps were $18 a roll. We still worked very hard and relied on people being their because their was not turning back once you got in your car and started off for your appointment.

I'll never forget the day I got my Uniden cellular bag phone in the latter 80's. It was a 3 watt phone that when you hung up the full sized phone your ear was very hot from talking. The sales tactics seemed to work. Times were different.

Enter Matt Gilson. Those that know me will tell you that I have less than steller health the last 8 years. it was a situation of getting done with one thing and another took over. There were some very life threatning times in there but I put my big boy pants on, with a smile, and went out to brave the world. No matter what cycle I may be at in life Im confident that Matt Gilson who I teamed up with has it covered. We do it all; Commercial, Business, Residential, and Investment. Personally speaking I have to say I enjoy Lake homes whether they may be in Waukesha, Washington, Jefferson, Dodge, or any county for matter. Then again I enjoy helping first time buyers acheive their dreams, guiding a business buyer through their dreams and putting their SBA project together so they can own theior own business, then their are the people who want to start their portfolio in buying commercial properties; multi family or commercial buildings. Everyday in real estate is like a great sunset, well, almost everyday.

There will be a day that I will hand over the batton to Matt to take care of all the wonderful clients I have been fortunate to call this charming young man a dear friend. He has seen me through much. Im grateful for him. My clients will be in good hands after I shoot off with stars and stripes one day.

Back to that Oak Tree thing. Perhaps in a delightful way we are just two guys that stood our ground. I would venture to say our clients in Waukesha County Real Estate would concur.
