October 2024 Challenge…Where Do I Start??

The October 2024 ActiveRain Tech Tools Challenge (hosted by Carol Williams and Frank Worrell)  has been fun to read!  Those who know me know that I love my apps!!!  I was ready to start writing my post the minute I saw the challenge…however…which app to choose????

It’s like a parent choosing their favorite child. The three I chose are for personal use. I use them everyday and they’re easy to use.

Life 360

Sharon Tara shared this with me over 8 years ago and we use it all of the time. Life 360 is a permission based app that tracks your cell phone. When I was staging, I gave Larry the address, whether it was a consultation or vacant home staging. Even with this information, he could track my phone with this app.

When we lived in FL, Larry was always off kayaking, flying his RC Plane, or hiking…very often by himself.  Life 360 let me know where he was. It wasn’t as if I needed to “track his every move” however, when he flew his planes, he could have been anywhere in 2 or 3 counties. I would not have known where to begin looking for him!

There is a FREE version, which I use and it fits my needs. It offers SOS Alerts and Crash Detection.

If you have Tiles, you can locate them through Life 360.

1SE (1 Second Every Day)

My sweet cousin’s husband introduced me to this several years ago after I saw it on his Facebook page. You take a short video or photo every day. Inside the app, you choose which video or photo you want to use each day.

At the end of the year it will “sew” them together and you have a video of your previous year! It’s fun to do!

Life Cycle

When we retired, I no longer had to maintain a calendar full of appointments. I was happy to rid myself of paper, which I am always trying to do.

This is not a must-have app for me. However, it helps me know where I’ve been and how I’ve spent my day. As long as my phone is with me, it presents me with a pie-chart of time spent running errands or with family, for example. It learns places you go to and if it’s not sure you can manually edit it.

Why have this? As I said, it’s not a must-have for me, however, there are times when I want to know when or where I went somewhere. This shows me. I don’t have to input anything in my app or enter something in a calendar.

If you viewed these apps they have something in common…they are intrusive. That is to say, they know where I am or what I’ve done.

Am I paranoid about it? Not overly so. These days there are cameras everywhere and I’m just a small fish in a huge pond. But these work for me when I need them!!!

Good morning, Kathy... interesting selections and while I was reading your post the thought "intrusive" entered my mind. I'm not overly fond of "Big Brother." We also got rid of our Alexa because I felt it was intrusive.

Love/hate relationship Nina Hollander, Broker We use ours for music around the house and to turn on lights. I bought the first version of Alexa because I got tired of Larry asking me how to spell something. I bought it and said "Ask Alexa."

I don't use any of those apps, but I think my phone does most of that stuff automatically whether I like it or not, haha.  It doesn't take a daily pic or video of me though, at least that I know of, haha.

Hi Brian England it may do that or you probably don't need it anyway!!! So good seeing you today.

Good morning Kathy,

I have been waiting for you to write your entry as I know how much you like your apps! All three I've not heard of so I'm so glad you wrote about them! 1SE sounds like fun and can see why you like it. Thank you for sharing as I know it must have been like a parent choosing their favorite child for you! LOL!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I really did have trouble picking the apps because I have and use so many. The 1SE would be so easy for you to use with your grandkids, especially all of their games you attend. You open the app, and it pulls up the day and you choose from your photos on your phone!!!

Some interesting apps. That e60 could be questionable for me as I may not want my wife to know where I am at all times. She questions my golf.

LOL Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 aw, come on!!!  I'll bet she loves your playing golf!!!   I liked that when Larry was flying his planes or kayaking, I knew where he was...just in case.

Hi Kathy,
I know how you love your apps, and like Dorie Dillard Austin TX, I've been waiting for your entry. You did not disappoint. I need to check out 1SE and LifeCycle. I have a few friends who don't want to be on Life360, which is fine but the family and friends who do use it with me love it.

I've watched enough crime investigation programs on TV to know that it might be a good thing to be tracked. At least they can't accuse me of being somewhere I wasn't. 😂

HI Carol Williams I could write 10 more of these!!!! I've used the LifeCycle when Larry and I try to remember when we went some place!  The Life 360 or anything like it would be good especially if you live alone.

Kathy, some apps can indeed feel intrusive, especially when it comes to data and privacy. These are all new to me!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 I couldn't agree more! For me, though, the trade-off is peace of mind for some of them.

Doug Dawes that ship has sailed. And, for me, if the ubiquitous cameras catch the "bad guys", then I'm ok with that.

I am low on apps on my phone.  I just got off the phone with McAfee.  I was receiving pop ups on my desktop, stating my computer was under attack and I had viruses.  Turns out, it was a scam.  The thing looked legit, but, apparently AI generated websites, now clone legitimate sites, and take your credit card info.  Not fun!

Oct 15, 2024 02:22 PM

Myrl Jeffcoat that happened to a friend back in FL several years ago. She was smart and called us on her other phone. Larry told her to hang up with the scammers and we went over immediately to check on her computer.
