Friday Fun…Jeff Masich Asked a Question

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI wrote an interesting post…What Do You Remember About Your Childhood Home for Next Home?

Hmmmm…what an interesting question.  With homage to Michael Jacobs, I began pondering about my childhood home. Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP wrote a beautifully sentimental post about hers.

If I were looking at a new home today I would want the attic fan we had. It was just above the hallway. We turned it on when it wasn’t hot enough for the air conditioner. We opened the front door with the screen door locked. I loved the breeze that blew throughout the house!!!

I’d love the two mimosa trees we had along the front sidewalk. Though it was not a real tree-house, my parents bought one that was like a shorter version of a deer blind. I loved it! It was in the side yard and I loved taking a book up there to read.

So what about you???? What features in your childhood home would you love to have???

Share it in the comments… or write a post about it!!!  It’s fun to reminisce.

I would want the woods that were behind the home and a back porch. Oh wait, I have those! There isn't anything else specific about that home that I'd like to have now, except the people of course.

Good morning, Kathy... to be perfectly honest, there's nothing in any of my childhood homes I'd recreate in my homes as an adult.

Nothing wrong with that Nina Hollander, Broker There are some things about my childhood home I like but I also wouldn't want the smaller closets!!

Good morning Kathy,

I grew up in the same house for the first 18 years of my life. I loved the front porch and opening the side window during a rain and hearing the water rushing down the creek that surrounded our 2 acres. My sister and I shared a room upstairs and we use to look out at the moon and stars and talk for hours before we went to sleep. I have great memories of playing baseball, kickball and tag with all the neighborhood kids on our lot..it was the go to place! I loved the lilac bushes, that lined our long driveway and the peony bushes that sprouted hot pink, soft pink and white blooms!

Hello Kathy - thank you for the mention.   You are likely well aware that merely putting my name in a post will raise the ire of at least one member of this community - so I thank you doubly (maybe even bigly) for that.  Happy Friday.  While it's not yet daybreak on the West Coast, the weekend is off to a great start.

I'm sorry to hear your comments (or name) raise someone's ire Michael Jacobs - we can't please everyone!

Kat Palmiotti - I quickly learned I can't please everyone, so I stopped attempting to do so a long time ago.  In the meantime, that member's comments don't disturb me, they are predictable and laughable.

Kathy, when I was in 3rd and 4th grades we lived in Nashville.   There was a creek behind our home, and an "island" in the middle.   We caught crawfish, and we were continually making "bridges" across the water.   A few years ago, I went back to Nashville to see that home.  It does have lots of great memories.

Good Morning Kathy Streib

I'm in agreement with Nina Hollander, Broker there is nothing in my childhood homes I desire. BUT, Pam & I lived in a small rental house (600 sq.st.) that had a whole house fan (no A/C) and when we'd turn it on the cooling breeze was perfect

Doug Dawes that sounds like the attic fan we had!!!  My first apartment was 725 sq feet and I thought that was small!!!

I loved our front yard, it had these hedges behind a low brick wall, in the backyard we had a rockery garden, I loved playing there with my toys among the rocks.

Good morning Kathy. Having grown up in a Chicago bungalow with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath in the typical floor plan, like Nina Hollander, Broker nothing to take from it. The exception would be the front porch but these days a balcony is safer. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin you don't see many front porches anymore. Larry built a community in Orlando that had front porches and some had garage apartments. I think I'd like that.

Hello Kathy,  we had a old home built in 1912 and it had small bedrooms and only 1 bathroom but it had two stairs to go up stairs.

Will Hamm I think a lot of older homes had just one bath. Now we have bathrooms for every bedroom and powder rooms too.

I can still see and feel the house as my current home kind of reminds me of it - but only in some ways. The childhood home was a FLW design with high ceilings, lots of windows, outdoor porches (as in about 6 or so) and really cool little niches. There was also a cobblestone street....which you could hear when driving on it.  Pretty cool!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I love the idea of all of the porches and high ceilings. To this day, Larry and I love high ceilings...at least in the primary living area.

Hi Kathy,
If you're asking about the house, there wasn't anything endearing about my childhood home. I did like the double lot we had because we could play baseball with the neighborhood kids. Also, there was a big fir tree in the front yard. My Dad hung a swing on one of the branches, and we loved that.

Kathy Streib - thank you for the mention of my name. That was very kind of you. You already know my answer because you read it and mentioned that in this post, Again, I appreciate my name drop.

As for the answer by Michael Jacobs, I understand. There are three people here on AR that vehemently despise me. Perhaps even more. Never in my wildest dreams would I think that the mention of his name would ire anyone. Michael is one of the greatest additions to ActiveRain.

My childhood home? I lived there from the age of 6 until I got married at age 20.

I'm not really coming up with any features of that home that I wish I had now but I have wonderful memories of the neighborhood and my childhood friends.

This reminded me of a post I wrote about my first home with Rick...all three children were born there. We lived there for 25 years. All three of the kids still LOVE that home and the memories made there.

Well Kathy and Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP thank you both for referring to my post on this subject, childhood homes. Pleased to read about Rainers memories. I remember the spring and woods in the backyard where we had adventures. My Dad's bookshelves and carpentry in the unfnished basement of our small home and the dead end nearby where we played touch football. We had nice neighbors playing in between the parked cars. The park was close by but we loved playing on the dead end to be close to home. My Mom rang a dinner bell (triangle with gong). Or TV room in the basement and our first color TV (13 inch). Back in the day.
