Friday Fun…Your Fun Tricks and Treats

Halloween is around the corner so time for some fun.

This has always been one of my favorite holidays. There are no gifts you feel obligated to buy. No religious toes you’re afraid of stepping on when you say "Happy Halloween." And no large family meals to plan.

Growing up in Houston B.C. ( as in Before Crazies) Halloween was fun! We went to our neighbor’s houses and not just on our street.

One of our neighbors had homemade popcorn balls and another had the best homemade cookies. All were placed in little baggies. And one of our favorite neighbors had us shout out “boo” at the top of our lungs before we got our treats.

Today there are Trunk ‘n Treats and Retail Mall stores handing out candy.

Speaking of candy…I had my favorites and usually gave the rest away to my cousin, Charles.

I loved (and still do) Peanut M&Ms, Whoppers, Hershey’s Kisses, Tootsie Roll Pops, and Candy Corn (I’m probably 1 in 100,000 but like Candy Corn).

What about you? Share with us your favorite Halloween Candy!

And if you wish, share a funny or treasured memory from Halloween.

Kathy, I like Hershey Kisses too and I like tootsie roll pops, especially the red and chocolate ones, but I'll pass on the candy corn!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 isn't it funny how we like certain colors like the red and chocolate tootsie pops (me too) and I used to save the red m&m's until the last!

Good morning Kathy. Once upon time in my younger years candy corn was great. Those days have long since passed. Hershey kisses are still a favorite and never last long. We are ready for trick or treaters with mini Nestle Crunch and Kit Kat bars. If we have leftovers they will not last long. Enoy your day≥

Wayne Martin I think I liked candy corn because my dance teacher would give us all candy corn at the end of class.

Hello Kathy - while not a fan of Halloween, I can understand the specialness of the holiday.  Creativity and festivities are definitely on display in multiple ways.

I love seeing kids with smiles on their faces and when they get to dress up and receive candy, it usually puts a big smile on their faces, haha.

Good morning, Kathy... for me it's peanut M&M's, as well. I also like candy corn in moderation. Wish they made Good & Plenty's in fun size boxes.

Nina Hollander, Broker I like peanut M&M's better than regular M&M's. I didn't like Snickers until I was an adult and even now rarely eat one.

Kathy, in my MUCH younger years, us kids would sit on the floor after done, and separate the ones we didn't want and barter with others.  I was the one that didn't eat chocolate.

Oh my gosh Joan Cox Our friend's children did that as well. The parents hung around like puppies waiting for a handout.

Your post made me smile and remember all kinds of fun stuff!  One of my favorites was when one of our nieces was living with us as a teenager and she loved Halloween.  One year we decked the front of the house out like a haunted house and she was the wicked witch of the west, complete with smoking black pot!  She started to make the sounds of a witch but found she was too scary for the little ones so she became the funny witch instead.  Such a fun year!  As for candy, not a big fan of any but if I have to I'd take a kit kat - a itty bitty one!

When I was a kid this might have been the most fun we could have. We would throw eggs at each other after dark. Crazy and mostly harmless.

Kathy Streib I enjoyed your observations about Halloween. I really enjoyed this holiday as a kid; it rivaled Christmas as my favorite Holiday. I really got into making haunted houses, costumes and even little creepy dioramas I'd use for decorations around the house until my mom would freak out about a few of them 😂 then they were relocated to my room.

Hi Kathy:

it's fun to think back over the various Halloweens over the years. It's certainly gotten to be a very popular holiday. I always enjoy seeing all the houses that are lit up with decorations and the different costumes. I still have to buy candy...I like all chocolate but faves are M & Ms (peanut of course). Hershey Bars, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. We always make sure we have plenty of candy so there is some of the favorites left over for us

Jeff
