Nina Hollander, Broker - your post is an awakening for many people who do not know how much money and profit is generated by a traditional Halloween celebration and the holidays that follow. Is it any wonder people wonder where their money went before the New Year?

Oct 30, 2024 07:12 AM

Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP hi Patricia, I'm very aware of Halloween spending... when I was with the Mars Corporation, the Halloween sales were very important to our annual bottom line and I've never gotten out of the habit of following sales at this time of year.

Good morning Nina,

I'm with Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty I'd say that stat is way off of parents stealing their children's candy ..more like 99%!! LOL! I'm seeing way more people decorating outside their homes this year than before. I think they are so tired of the election nonsense they are turning to something more fun!

Oct 30, 2024 07:28 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Dorie Dillard Austin TX hi Dorie... my neighborhood has always decorated for Halloween... but it really picked up "big" during Covid and has remained so since.

Yes, we have our house decorated with pumpkins, gourds and squash, but they were a lot more than $4. No carving here though.

Oct 30, 2024 08:03 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 hi Nick... that's $4.93 per pumpkin. The most interesting thing about that is that it's one of the few things for which I've seen a price go down from last year.

Nina, I do not fit into your stats.   We have zero kids that trick or treat in my neighborhood, so buy NO candy, haven't been to a costume party in years, and still don't dress up, and don't decorate my home.  My demons would tear things apart.

Oct 30, 2024 02:16 PM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Joan Cox hi Joan... well, they're not exactly my stats. This is an overview of what many Americans do for Halloween. In my case, while I don't dress up, I do wear my Halloween sweater, I do have trick or treaters, and I totally decorate my home -- my fur babies know better than to disturb anything. :)

Hi Nina- I was counting on you to gather all of these interesting facts and you did not disappoint.  We all need a break...a time to relax and laugh and Halloween might be that time.

I am giving away my usual chocolate favorites but just for kicks I threw in some Twizzlers and some sweet Tart thing I've never seen before.

This fact was disturbing though...Four times as many children are killed in pedestrian accidents on Halloween than on any other day.

Oct 30, 2024 05:43 PM

Kathy Streib good morning, Kathy... we seem to forget each year just how many accidents and fire occur on Halloween.

Hi Nina:

Happy Halloween and thank you for such a fun fact-filled post (except for the sad news about child deaths and household fires). That's a lot of money being spent on candy and costumes!

We are expecting a fairly busy night tomorrow.

Oct 30, 2024 10:58 PM

Endre Barath, Jr. good morning, Endre... actually the amount spent on candy is a tad down. So I'm thinking the inflation factor is in there.
