Enough Already!

By

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one feeling this way.  How many of you are exhausted, frustrated, and downright fed up, with the election cycle we find ourselves in?

It's to the point where I dread going out to my mailbox, because I know I will be confronted with more campaign mailouts that assault my senses.  This morning, I took this photo of the ones received thus far, with a week more left before the election.

I know of no other country that is on a 24/7, 365 day a year election cycle like America is.  We have created a Political Industrial Complex.  Are we feeding the beast?  I suspect we are!

There is a lot of money for the party in power and they are spending like crazy to get it. Where else can a poor man win a national election and within a few short years is a multi-millionaire.

Good evening Myrl Jeffcoat ,

Enough is enough!! The war chests for politicians have grown to unthinkable numbers! Just think how much debt our country could be paid off with these huge sums of money!

Myrl- you'll get no argument from me. Usually at this time of year, we're inundated with postcards and letters regarding Medicare Open Enrollment. That seems like nothing compared to the election stuff.

That looks very familiar to me, Myrl... I don't remember being inundated with so much political advertising in my mailbox in my life. I don't even look at it... it goes right into the recycle bin. Everyone I know does the same... so I wonder why they think this might really work as a form of advertising.

As for our elections... I've long said our elections should be limited to three months and limited as to the amount of money spent on them.

Hello Myrl - whoever or whatever measure prevails, I imagine the electioneering and campaigning will start sooner than anyone might imagine.  At least, that's my thought after years of observing such things.  And following the money usually $how$ much too.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 - I agree with you 100%.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX - Not all my neighbors are being hit as hard with this stuff like I am.  I haven't sent money to any campaigns.  The only thing I can think of is that I'm a registered "Non-Partesan."  I am wondering if they think I may be "undecided."

Kathy Streib - Yes, I'm getting hit with the Open Enrollment stuff as well.

Myrl Jeffcoat - to think, all those paper direct mails spent by candidates and political parties to get votes are the biggest arse and most shameful wasters of landfill space. After all, that is where all their faces and paraphernalia end up anyways! Those are the ones that need to be taxed for wasteful spending.

Nina Hollander, Broker - I agree 100%. We need shorter campaign times.  Getting Congress to agree to that may be difficult, when they are feeding so heavily off of the 24/7, 365 day a year timeline.

Michael Jacobs - If I remember correctly, it hasn't gone away since the last election!

I will be glad when this stressful election period is over.

We voted by mail at the end of last month.

Myrl Jeffcoat it wouldn't be so bad if if it were not for the fact that they can legally lie to us. I am a one party guy and during this time I can not watch the news with all the lies they tell about my candidate and party. As far as the other party I like the saying "I know they are lying, I see their lips moving". 😄

I didn't even look at one of them that I received, they just immediately went into the trash, haha.  I don't understand why it even costs any money for someone to campaign for an office, just share your views and opinions and we can decide whether to vote for you or not, haha.

Assault is a good word. Or it's like being in an asteroid belt or hail storm. Hunker down until it's over but it is ever over? With a country 50-50, it is a constant tug of war and politics is spilling into everything. Us and Them is not helping the country Myrl Jeffcoat

Hello Myrl,  You did not get one argument in the comments or anything close to it.  Yet another sign of the powers that be too far separated from the reality of the people they are supposed to represent.  Won't ever change...too many $$$ involved.

On a different note.  You stop by often and say hello and we quip back and forth a bit.  Today I realized I do not see your blogs on my scroll.  In checking your posts I see I would need hit it just right on my scroll or, as has been the case, you are there and gone before I get a chance to say hello.  I will remedy that as of now.  Make it a great weekend ahead.  Be safe, stay healthy.  m

Wow, that is a lot of political mailers, Myrl! This year, more than any other year, the amount of text messages and calls were outrageous, glad the election is over for so many reasons.
