Real Estate Sales Advice-Beware The Holidays!
Halloween marks the start of the 2024 Holiday Season. During this time most of us will take a few days off from time to time. Care must be taken that we don't step away too long. A lazy fourth quarter can cause a BROKE 1st quarter. Here are some holiday time management tips I've learned in the last 16 years.
1) Follow a schedule during the holiday season-- Decide in advance which days you will take off. Mark them on your calendar. MAKE SURE to coordinate this with your family. I learned this the hard way one year :)
2) When you are off, be present-- Turn off the devices and enjoy the time with your loved ones. Don't be that person texting while the turkey is being cared.
3) When you are working, work-- There will be a million distractions in the office. My advice is to post a schedule on your door. And another copy new your desk. Look at it often.
4) Beware the day before and after off days-- This is real estate sales, not space flight. There is no need to "prep to leave" the last day before taking off. Just follow your schedule.
5) After the holiday season, look back and see what worked-- From this activity I learned to take the whole week of Thanksgiving off. Frankly my mind just wasn't in it. And as the kids grew up and moved I started cherishing our time together. Why go to the office if your daughter is home visiting from college? Be the cool Dad!
6) Beware the three hour holiday lunch--Your friends from the office may want to have a holiday lunch. No worries. But understand it will be sooooooo difficult to return to work after. Give yourself a task to do after the lunch!
Believe it or not the more I plan my holiday schedule the more I enjoy the season. Gone is the feeling of guilt from stepping away from real estate world. Enjoy some needed time off this holiday season, just plan for it!
