Fall Has arrived once again in Connecticut, which means it is time for me to begin my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started twelve years ago.  This is a series I hoped to continue for many years, and have been able to do so far, however, this year I have started maybe a week to late.

The first two years of this series, the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house.  Ten years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17.  I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be.  So eight years ago I decided to change locations again to a site at Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield, CT.  But once again that site did not produce the colors I had hoped for, so four year ago I decided to keep it simple and do my Progression of Fall Colors blog in my back yard.   Then two year ago I decided to change locations again, but even though the colors were good, it was not what I expected.  So last year decided to do my progression of Fall colors once again of my backyard again.  The colors in the past have been good in this location, and this year they were a little better than in the past few years.  However, this year the Fall Season seems to be about a week ahead of past years.

The first picture below for this year's Progression Of Fall Colors series was taken earlier four weeks ago just as the colors were starting to change.  I usually try to take the first picture before the colors start to change, but I was a little late this year.  So the colors have already started to change a little in this first picture.  The second picture below was taken at the beginning of a month weeks ago.  The third picture below was taken at the end of that week, so a little less than a week from the second one.  As you can see there is noticeable change between all three pictures, and the colors that week started to become a little more vivid.   The forth picture was taken a week later, and the colors changed significantly from the prior week.  In fact this was the peak for this year's Fall colors.  The following week the trees start to quickly lose there leaves as you can see in the fifth picture below.  Most of the leaves have now fallen and as you can see int the sixth picture below they are more than half gone.  The way the trees are quickly losing their leaves, I expect the trees to have completely lose all their leaves by my next blog.  As I have done for the last twelve years, I have posted pictures of this same spot at different points throughout the Fall to show the progression of the Fall colors.

Fall is a beautiful time of the year in New England, and even though the last couple of years were better than some of the earlier years of this series, they still did not had the pop I was looking for.  However, this year we started to see some resemblance of earlier years.  I have become spoiled by the beautiful colors we normally see during the Fall, so I might be a little more critical than most.  My favorite colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leaves when they blend together.

Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy our Fall colors at their peak, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.  The change in colors happened more rapidly than this year than in past years.  I will continue to post until the trees have lost all or most of their leaves.

Fall Has Arrived, and now is almost drawn to an end of our Fall colors In Middletown, Connecticut.  I hope you have enjoying following my series of the change in Fall colors this year starting with the First Blog Of The 2024 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT. to the last.

The progression of colors, especially the bushes surrounding the house which have turned bright red, are spectacular, George.

Beautiful colors!  I experienced a perfect fall in Connecticut one year and it was spectacular!  not quite the same in Washington with the amount of evergreens we have.  Thank you for sharing the wealth.

Leaves are falling. It looks like your next post, if you do one, might be of bare trees.

Hi George:

This is such a fun photographic series. The trees certainly look different now than they did a few weeks ago - I think more leaves have fallen than remain on the trees.
