Every time I answer my phone and there's a pause, then a bloop sound before a "Mike" or a "John" starts speaking with an accent about trying to sell me leads, or some Medicare plan, or...it doesn't really matter what they're trying to sell, the bottom line is the whole set up from start to finish does nothing to establish any trust with me as a potential customer. It's a short call.
And today being election day, we've just spent the last few months under a tsunami of ads about why we should trust Candidate A and Candidate B is a lying, scum sucking, lower than whale crap at the bottom of the ocean, creature who you can't trust because they're going to sell you out!! Flip the script and B is saying similar things about A. (and this isn't an excuse to leave political comments below, not interested...you vote your way, I'll vote mine. Maybe they're the same, maybe they're not, but I didn't write 1000s of posts just to have someone decide I'm "unworthy" of a referral or business just because we're not 100% aligned politically.
Our blog posts, our websites and our social media give us an opportunity to develop trust from total strangers. We've all heard where the real estate industry stands in the general public's trust category, BUT individual people can still HIGHLY trust individual agents (and they'd better considering the magnitude of purchasing or selling a home!)
You can always blog or post about any topic you choose, but with the understanding that there are consequences to those choices.
You post about your dogs, the cat people have an issue with you.
You post about your cats, the dog people have an issue with you.
You post about your pet Sasquatch, and almost everyone will have an issue with you 😀
But from a professional standpoint, you can establish trust by sharing (and I'll use this phrase for the 100th time) pertinent real estate related content that answers their questions (and they're not finding elsewhere). If you can give them the info that is missing on Z, T, R and other big portal sites, you've gone a long ways towards establishing trust. Combine that with enough personal information in your profile/About me that gives them a reason to find common ground, and you now have a decent chance of building a customer relationship. Cement that with good communication and showing in person you know about what you post online, and you're almost home free.
Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Wait a minute. You mean you don't want to hear about my pet Sasquatch? But, but, but.... he is so cute! And I named him Sammy. Sammy the Sasquatch.

Harry, meet Sammy...Sammy, meet Harry. And both just want to know where to meet Henrietta :)
Haha
Good afternoon Bill,
There are always consequences to everything! You are never going to please everyone and not everyne will like or trust you. Know your audience and what you want message you want to deliver to them and make it happen!

Different markets, the risk may be lower to affiliate with a particular cause or political party. My area is heavy red, but people move here from outside the area, and I don't know (nor do I need to know) their inclinations. Let's go find a house that works for you!
I am so fed up with those calls. "Hi, this is Mary..." - click -

The latest round I'm getting is AI voice with a British accent Rachel wanting to start me down the path of prepaid funeral expenses. No way to get a human and get off their call list. Obviously the Do Not Call list has become a complete joke. Spoofed local numbers are the rule.
Wow prepaid funeral expenses. That’s a lot to look forward to

"Rachel" has called me at least a half dozen times in the last two weeks. Blocking doesn't work, they just spoof another local number.
Albert Einstein said it best: "Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.
Trust is the foundation for any relationship to succeed.

And small matters can be an early indicator. One of my pet peeves is cold call emails that start with RE: in the subject line like they're responding to a previous email. NOPE.
Liz and Bill Spear - Small matters that are ignored often lead to the biggest lies ever told. Even worse, they lead to manipulating the truth which often leads to mass confusion.
When I was very young, about five years old, there was a school fire in Chicago near to where my elementary school was located. About 99 children and nuns were killed and for most of my life, nobody knew what or who caused the fire. I still read the Chicago Tribune. Several years ago, a boy/man confessed he started the fire by smoking and was afraid to tell. He was tortured his entire life for his lies and mischievous behavior that he learned to get away with. He finally needed to tell the truth.
Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP , that had to be a lot of guilt to carry for an entire lifetime realizing the responsibility for all those deaths.
Hello Bill (and Liz too) - my days of answering calls from unidentified numbers is pretty much in the past. Building trust is important and can take long to establish but can disappear quickly. Examples are abundant.

In the rain, one bad post or comment is all it takes to wipe out years of good work.
I got a call last week. The caller was difficult to understand, and when I said, "I am, I don't understand a thing you said," he said, "This is a cold call. Do you have a few minutes to talk, or would you like to just hang up?" LOL. I said, "Thank you—I will hang up."

Shirley Coomer , I have to respect that guy :)
To say it simply...if you can not establish trust, you will not be a successful Realtor.

One of the things in the business I dislike the most is realizing I've done everything I can to establish that trust, yet there is someone else whispering in their ear that they trust more (and it's probably a relative who has sold one home in 25 years, or another agent who's upset they didn't get the job).
Trust is the foundation of our business..

It's a big part of it.
This is the most important part of any interaction and this is no exception whatsoever!
