Explore Miami & Miami Beach with Your Dog: Best Dog-Friendly Beaches & Parks

If you're planning a trip or moving to Greater Miami & Miami Beach with your four-legged friend, get ready to explore more than just hotel rooms and amenities. Miami offers dog-friendly beaches, parks, and scenic paths where your pooch can stretch out, run, and enjoy the fresh ocean air. Although many of Miami’s beaches don’t allow dogs, there are some fantastic dog-friendly spots to discover. Here’s your guide to enjoying Miami with your dog, from sandy shores to beautiful parks and walking trails.

Dog Beaches in Miami

Haulover Park Beach

  • Location: Between Bal Harbour and Sunny Isles Beach
  • Hours: 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. for off-leash access
  • Haulover Park Beach is a paradise for dogs and their owners. Between lifeguard towers 2 and 3, dogs can enjoy an off-leash beach adventure, running in the sand and splashing in the waves. Haulover Park also features two fenced dog runs, shaded seating areas, water fountains, and waste stations. While the beach is free, there’s a small parking fee.

Hobie Beach

  • Location: Off the Rickenbacker Causeway, Key Biscayne
  • Known for its calm, shallow waters, Hobie Beach is a favorite for kite surfers and dog owners alike. Dogs are welcome to roam the sand and play in the bay, offering a relaxed beach experience where pups can socialize in the surf.

North Beach Oceanside Park (Bark Beach)

  • Location: North Beach, between 80th and 81st streets
  • Hours: Fridays through Sundays, 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • This small beach section, affectionately known as Bark Beach, is open for off-leash dog play during the designated weekend hours. The surrounding North Beach Oceanside Park has additional dog runs and a pet-friendly environment where leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy walking trails, picnic areas, and green spaces.

Dog Parks in Miami

Belle Isle Park

  • Location: Between Downtown Miami and South Beach on the Venetian Causeway
  • Belle Isle Park, on a small residential island, offers designated dog parks for both small and large dogs, equipped with seating, waste receptacles, and water fountains. With serene views of the water, it’s a peaceful escape perfect for letting your dog off leash.

East Greynolds Park

  • Location: North Miami Beach
  • This scenic park, just off Biscayne Boulevard near Maule Lake, features an off-leash dog area, a fishing dock, and kayaking spots. With picnic areas and trails, it’s a beautiful place to spend a day exploring Miami’s natural beauty with your dog.

South Pointe Park

  • Location: South Beach
  • With stunning views of Fisher Island and PortMiami, South Pointe Park allows off-leash dogs in designated areas from sunrise to 10 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The open, grassy area isn’t enclosed, so be prepared to keep an eye on your pet. This spot is perfect for a morning or evening walk with your dog against a beautiful backdrop.

Great Places to Walk Your Dog in Miami

In addition to dedicated dog beaches and parks, Miami offers several scenic walking spots where dogs on leashes are welcome:

  • The Beachwalk: Running the entire length of Miami Beach, the Beachwalk is a paved oceanfront path where you can enjoy the views while your dog gets some exercise.
  • Crandon Park: Located on Key Biscayne, Crandon Park has shaded walking trails ideal for a leisurely stroll with your pet.
  • Bayfront Park: In Downtown Miami, Bayfront Park offers sweeping views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline, making it a great spot for a walk with your pup.

Travel Tips for Dog Owners Visiting Miami

While enjoying Miami’s dog-friendly amenities, here are a few tips to ensure your dog has a safe and comfortable experience:

  • Pack Plenty of Water: Miami can be warm, and your dog will need lots of water to stay hydrated.
  • Clean Up After Your Dog: Waste bags are available at most dog-friendly spots, but it’s always a good idea to bring your own.
  • Watch for Signs of Overheating: Keep an eye on your dog, especially on hot days. Miami’s sun can be intense, so take breaks in shaded areas when needed.

With its dog-friendly beaches, parks, and beautiful trails, Greater Miami & Miami Beach is a wonderful destination for travelers with pets. From sandy beaches to scenic parks, your dog can enjoy this sunny paradise.
