Way back when I started blogging on ActiveRain in 2007, I met Audrey June Forshey, a wonderful woman and an agent in Gaithersburg, MD. Audrey had "met" Jeff Turner and his wife Rocky on ActiveRain and Jeff had blogged about Rocky's volunteer trip to Kenya.
The blog talked about Rocky's visit at St Monica's Children's Home, a home for orphaned and underserved girls outside of Nairobi. She fell in love with the girls there and wanted to help. She started fundraising to help and Mothers Fighting For Others was born. Audrey and many friends wanted to help and held a Gift of Education fundraiser in Audrey's Damascus, MD home and the East coast chapter was born.
My family got involved in the Gift of Education fundraiser and a year later got the opportunity to sponsor and love one of the girls directly. A year after that I joined the board of the grassroots 501 C3 organization. We have many success stories of our girls from St Monica's. I am excited to share that our sweet Kenyan daughter, Lydia is getting ready to graduate from the University of Nairobi at the end of this month. We are so incredibly proud of her and several other girls that will join her!
The photo above shows Audrey Forshey and some of the beautiful graduates of St Monica's Children's Home on her last visit to Kenya, her husband Mike, as always has her back! We have so many success stories and are so proud of all of these amazing women!
To say that I am grateful for ActiveRain and the connections made here is an understatement! ActiveRain is local, ActiveRain is GLOBAL! So much good has come because of the people here. If you would like to check out Mothers Fighting For Others, please go to www.mffo.org. No donation is too small. I am sure you make a difference in your community, we'd love for you to help us to continue to make a difference beyond our boarders!
Thanks ActiveRain for giving me another daughter to love and the gift of the friends I have made here!
