Wordless Wednesdays: Perspective... Most people who visited us have always been amazed at the size of our lemons.

www.endrebarath.com

We have given lemons as gifts to anyone who likes them. For the sake of perspective, I placed a large egg next to it so you can appreciate the size difference.

Some people are surprised and amazed and ask us what our secret is. Our answer is, we have no idea. All we do is water the lemon tree as we do our other citrus trees.

www.endrebarath.com

No, we are not hiding anything, it is simple, nature is good to us. The back yard gets mostly afternoon sun until sunset. In the morning the lemon three is mostly in the shade. We seldom fertilize the tree. In ten years maybe three times I can remember us fertilizing.

Anyway, hope these photos put things in perspective. Really our lemons are much larger than you see in the stores. Needless to say, I have been grateful for it for the past ten plus years. We enjoy the lemons with all the seafood I cook, as well as the fact that we can be generous and give them away as well.

Good morning Endre. When my father-in-law retired and moved to Florida he planted two grapefruit trees, on pink and one regular. They produced nor fruit for about five years and he considered removing them. Then something happened with no help from him. They produced an over abundance of the largest sweetest grapefruits I have ever seen. He gave bags of them away whether you wanted them or not. So, when you are lucky to get super producing trees, enjoy!

Endre Barath, Jr. good morning, Endre... after your recent Ranier Maria Rilke post, I couldn't resist posting this quote from him:

"huge lemons, cut in slices, would sink like setting suns into the dusky sea, softly illuminating it with their radiant membranes and its clear, smooth surface aquiver from the rising bitter essence."

Your lemon trees do produce incredibly large lemons. As to the secret, it appears Mother Nature is keeping that secret to herself.

Endre Barath, Jr.  I had a friend who made an amazing sauce from lemons we called it lemon Love sauce . It made everything taste wonderful pasta ,fish ,chicken, veal . I lost the recipe in one of my many gypsy moves . It was a pretty basic sauce of wine garlic lemons and I believe white Winchesters sauce  . Unfortunately he passed away so I can not ask .He was an amazing cook

I have a neighbor who has a couple lemon trees.  I'm fortunate because he has a little basket at the end of his driveway that he keeps filled with the harvest.  One of the trees bears normal sized lemons, and the other one has very large ones like yours pictured.

Wonderful to have your own lemon tree! I image you make the necessary adjustments in recipes when the juice of a lemon is called for.
