Grateful and Proud of Being an American
There is no accounting for where one has been born. It is another of the mysteries of life. As humans, we all strive, or attempt to make the most of where we live to survive. There are very few places in the world, however, where one has unlimited opportunities available to them as we do here in the United States.
As we have seen over the past months our country is not perfect, and yet people still line up at the border seeking a place to thrive. So many people in the world will live a life and not know even the minutest bit of freedom that we can so often take for granted.
I am proud to be a citizen of this country. A second-generation veteran from a family of people that have served.
I have family members living overseas and some of them envy our lot. Whether it be from the harshness of the land where they live, to the lack of consistent utilities, or just the ability to talk in the middle of a sidewalk and voice displeasure of the government, which so many did on the Wednesday following our recent elections.
Ours is a country that offers much in the way of diversity. It can be in the climates, the topography, the vastness of the countryside. It is a country where people dream of the opportunity to live here and many attempt to get here however, they can just to be able to make a few dollars to send back home. While hunger is an issue some face here in our country, it is not a persistent problem as there is always someone willing to 'spare a dime'.
When duty calls to protect freedom, members of our family responded whether it was World War 2 or in my case that conflict in Asia.
I am proud to be an American and am so appreciative that I live here.
This is a post for the November, ActiveRain Challenge of Thanksgiving.
