Debe Maxwell kicked off November with a Gratitude Challenge. Our goal is to write one gratitude post per week during the month. Unfortunately I missed week number one, so will probably only do three posts maximum if that. My first post is about gratitude for our grandchildren.
My stepson and his wife added a baby boy to their family last week and we flew east to help them out. They had their first child, Thea, almost two years ago. Our job while here has been to do the laundry, cook most dinners, straighten up, help with some household projects and keep an eye on their older daughter.
Oh my gosh! We have learned that Thea comes with two types of energy. A bazillion miles a minute or sleeping. Haha, I forgot how much energy a two year old has!
So why am I so grateful? What a beautiful, inquisitive, intelligent, strong and amazing child she is! She asks questions about everything. She wants to know about anything she sees - what is it, what does it do, what color is it, how does it go together. She can put together linkages between items. She is learning how to count and tell colors and shapes apart. She laughs all the time and only gets a bit cranky if she's tired. And then she asks to go to bed. I can tell you without a doubt that my children NEVER asked to go to bed! If it's nap time she rubs her eyes and puts her hands next to her head and pretends she's laying on a pillow. How precious.
Her parents have been teaching her all along how to be independent and helpful. She closes doors and gates, helps put away the dishes, washes her own hands, puts on her shoes and socks. With the amazing parents she has, she is going to grow up with the opportunity to become whoever she wants to become. I am so excited to see how life goes for her.
And as for James, the new baby. He's a new baby! At a week old, his needs are simple, clean diapers and lots of food and sleep. On our next visit, he'll be more interactive and I can gush about him as well.
So I am so grateful that the two grandchildren of the family (only two so far but with four sons between us there might be more in the future) are healthy and obviously happy. And now I have to stop writing since Thea will be getting up soon and it'll be time to follow the little tornado around the house!
Thank you for reading!
