Planning On NOT Being Bored.

I am planning a trip to Fargo soon and I was surprised at how little community information is available on the City website or Chamber of Commerce website.

I was raised in Fargo's sister city, Moorhead MN however that was forty years ago and things have changed a lot over the years. Most disappointing is that the bulk of friends that I was close to have passed on or like myself, moved on.

I'm not one to spend much time in the past and that is why I have not been back to Fargo/Moorhead more than 6 times in 40 years.

So why now? I am meeting my daughter and son-in-law halfway as she is returning a car I loaned her six years ago. We all thought it would be a good time to visit as we will not be able too over Thanksgiving.

Through careful searching I did find some arts offerings I knew Timmothy and Tina would enjoy (Both are professional artists). The biggest highlight of the trip will be visiting The Fargo Fine Arts Club House.

My mother managed and lived in the club house for a decade and she was the Club Manager for many years as well. The clubhouse is not a gallery or museum but it is a very interesting place that I know Tina and Timmothy will enjoy. They never met my mom (their grandmother) as she was murdered before they were born. Tina has always been interested in her roots so this may help her to get to know the Grandmother she never met.

The Fargo Fine Arts Clubhouse is NOT a public place, it's a private club. I called to set up an appointment and they generously welcomed us to come and spend as much time as we liked to view what was a large part of our family history.

A few more words about the Fargo website. Again I was disappointed at how little is offered on it, especially in line with FAMILY entertainment. Our group will all be adults BUT just because we are adults doesn't mean we are hyped up for a weekend of bar hoping and adult comedy clubs. It took research on my own to find art galleries and other family friendly activities.

What does your City's website, Chambers website say about your City? I am proud to say that "Visit Minot" has a lot of family friendly activities available? Yes, we have bars BUT and the video at the top of the page shows some adult activity but immediately under the video is  this:

Our official town website is all about business, but we have a special website (DiscoverKalispell.com) that is all about traveling to/in the area and it does include family activities!

Highlighting business is good for the City but I would think reasons to visit the city would be number one and then "While you are here visit these businesses" would be the best approach. Kat Palmiotti now you have me wanting to look at your Cities site and others.

Thank you Bill Salvatore - East Valley . Two trips in such a short time doesn't excite me but seeing the newly weds again does.

Hello Bob - I'm on "board" with bored-avoidance.  When visiting a new or not-so-new place, it can be fun as well as interesting to investigate what may greet me.  Sometimes that's a city's website but there are countless rabbit holes where things seem to pop up.

I have never been to Fargo but did see the Coen Brothers' movie Fargo.  It's a classic.    Enjoy!

"Fargo" was an interesting movie but to us who lived there at the time wondered if the Coen Brothers had ever visited Fargo before writing/directing the movie. The language was totally Canadian.

Your comment about things popping up made me realize that I did not look to see if there was anything special going on at any of the three Universities in Fargo/Moorhead.

Good morning, Bob... I hope you enjoy your trip to Fargo. One reason I haven't been back to New York City since my 40th high school reunion 18 years ago is because most everyone I knew in NYC has either died or moved away. And I certainly don't need to go to NYC to do touristy things. I'll probably try, nonetheless, to go back for my 60th high school reunion in 2026.

I missed my 50th due to health issues Nina Hollander, Broker but I too will head back for my 60th if I'm still around. We chose Fargo so Tina and Jonathan don't have to drive all the way to Minot from Omaha. They were really pleased with that idea.

Good morning Bob. The wife and I are back in the area where we grew up because of ou son and grandkids. Unfortunately, do to the current conditions we are unable to safely visit many areas where we sent time as a youth. SO it goes with big cities on a downhill slide. The current mayor of Chicago has announced he is bigger and badder then the  President elect and he intends to do things his way in his fiefdom. Luckily we now live far outside the city and can watch from afar as it further declines. Such a pity.

You are lucky that you can visit sites that have meaning and history for your family, Truly enjoy the weekend.

Thank you Wayne Martin . It is a shame our cities have declined so badly but it seem that is the way it has always been reflecting on some Bible stories like Sodom and Gomorrah.

It's funny to me because I look forward to getting to a state of boredom, but then I don't enjoy being bored, haha.

Bob loved the headline of your post, I am all about being boring nowadays... now the family tradition and history visit sounds fascinating and not boring at all. Loved it six year lease on the car?:)))Endre

Me too, normal/boring is good Endre Barath, Jr. As far as the lease goes I had only had the car a short time and was not loving it. Tina needed reliable transportation to attend a school 850 miles from home so the sacrifice was easy.

Good Evening Bob "RealMan" Timm

Our town's website is pretty much all business. It's a new website and easier to use so maybe there will be some additional Town info placed on it.

I'm sure our City site is much the same but the City also has a site called VisitMinot.org that is great for what Minot has to offer.

I am sure you will have a wonderful time, every town changes a bit. The last time I went to Guatemala City in 1980 was a very enjoyable time. Everything looked different than what I experienced growing up there. I would like to go back, but it will not be possible. I am sorry to hear about their grandmother. Please do take pictures and share.
