Of course, the promise is confined to the use as directed with small print advisory and in some cases unconditional satisfaction guarantees. Imagine a product that doesn't perform? How long do you think its shelf life would be? That's how important a promise is i.e. life or death!

Here the promises are upped considerably because of human nature which is complicated in its demands. It's personal therefore subject to emotions and judgments not to mention criticisms which all govern the success or failure of the service provider. Bear in mind its not just the services but also how the customer is serviced. Recordings? On hold? Long lines?
