You never know what is going to happen after you get divorced. You may meet some people and think this is the one, and then they are not. You may think about moving and starting over. I had all those maybes, but I ended up staying right where I was and through some friends was introduced to a marvelous woman, Annie.
We discovered on our first meeting that we liked a lot of the same things, food, wine, beer, travel. I also discovered she liked music and concerts, something I had never really experienced but which would rapidly change.
Also, we met right in the midst of a pandemic. I knew Annie had a dog, Jackie,
so I naturally suggested our first date should be a dog walk, so we could meet and I could see if this was going to work and then go to a local brewery that had outdoor seating. I knew I could not manage a rambunctious overactive dog. Well, it was love at first sight for both Jackie and me. When she was able to walk we would take long walks together, now I walk and push her in a buggy so she can still experience all the smells and I get some exercise. I am grateful for the love she shows, and her lovely character.
Annie had another pet, Sylvester, a black cat she rescued, somehow I think he is bi-polar as you never know if he will brush against you or hunt you through the house hissing and scratching you. he has drawn blood many times, even though I feed him and clean his litter box. He is obsessed with his mother and I think he is jealous of me, but we coexist and so far he has not killed me nor I him, although honestly I have thought about it when I have blood dripping from an arm or leg. Admittedly, he is very handsome.
This is my new family, for whom I am grateful for the love they share with me. I was married for a very long time in my first marriage, but there were many years where I was not loved and I felt lonely, these years with Annie have been making up for that and I am so grateful to be able to experience all that we do together. New friends, Longwood Garden visits, concerts, movies, travel, wine club, dinner club, restaurants, wonderful dinners at home, great wine, interesting cocktails I create. Life is good, and I am grateful for every day of it.
This is my second entry in this months gratitude challenge, hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS .
