Don't Throw A Wrench In The Works

I have no idea where this comic strip came from. Timmothy has long beautiful hair but as far as I know no one ever messes it up on him. I on the other hand have almost no hair yet it's messed up all the time. The cartoon reminded me of the woman's style of "ratting" in the 60's. My favorite was actress Bridgett Bardot.

Real Estate

Transferring the thought "Don't Mess Up My Hair" to Don't mess up my system. All business people have a system that works for them. When I was a Real Estate Broker I had a system that worked for me. It was comfortable for me but maybe a little relaxed for many new agents that wanted some ridged guidelines to help them focus. When I sold my company I made the error of sticking with the company. The error was they were extremely ridged and I could not fit my form into their square hole.

As discussed in the past on Active Rain when an agent changes brokerages they should be clear on brokerage policies. If you are a newly licensed agent you should  interview no less than three brokers to find out how their ship is run. If it isn't a near perfect fit move on until you find one... as the newbie Don't mess up their system

Good morning, Bob... I may have entered young adulthood in the 60's, but in 100 years my mother would not have allowed me to wear my hair like that... and by the time I got to college in 1966, it was longer, straight hair that was in style.

Nina Hollander, Broker I have no doubt that you are positively stunning no matter how you style your hair. 😍

What I do remember of Brigit Bardot was her introducing the bikini to our country one photo at a time.

Hi Bob- I love the point you made about interviewing the broker. No matter how good you may be as an agent, you can't go in and rock the boat, You have to find a place that your work style will thrive.

And to Nina Hollander, Broker's point, when I was in college, my hair was long and straight and I looked like your typical hippie.

I know it's hard to believe but I also had long hair and thought myself to be a hippie but in reality I was a spoiled rich kid trying to be cool Kathy Streib .

Bob "RealMan" Timm  my father and I both loved Bridget Bardot, so I loved your analogy, now with that said, when I came to Los Angeles, I went to a boutique brokerage, liked the manager, then right before the market crashed in 2007 he sold it to Coldwell Banker... stayed there until a manager came that I could not get along with, I switched to Prudential they changed the name to Berkshire... so with that said technically I only worked in two brokerages in 26 years.... why the grass is not greener on the other side... if you have a good manager might as well stay, Endre

It does sound like Philemon is high maintenance Brian England . I asked Timmothy if they shake water off after a bath and he said yes they do. 😉

Good morning Bob. Well put! When I left a brokerage to become a managing broker many of my former colleagues wanted to join me. It was not a good fit and it took time to convince them to stay where they were. Why, because they were a good fit for the square hole and would not fit in my round one. Choose carefully. Enjoy your day.

Thank you for the confirmation Wayne Martin . I knew they were paperwork heavy but I had no idea just how much so I signed up. It was a huge mistake or I may still be active today.

You had mes smiling with this post Bob!  I was wondering where it was going....first with the comic, then Bridget Bardot!  And then you made it all come together and make total sense and relatable to real estate!  I so agree, it's so important to find an office and managing broker that you can relate to and work with easily withing their system. Thankfully I've been on my own most of my career and lucked into a fantastic broker right out of the gate when I first started. Now since I'm retired, I've parked my license with a great brokerage and if I ever need anything they're there in a heartbeat.  Love it!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten when I started out I had a "fair" broker. He had the lowest starting commission in town but more perks than anyone else. Like most agents I saw dollar signs and moved on when I would have been better off staying in place. On the other hand I thought is morals stunk so it was hard to stay for that reason. I've mentioned before that like some other brokers held to the belief that if there was a dispute between agents "the agent who sells the most is the winner".

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm

I started with Coldwell Banker... a very professional, top notch office.  For personal reasons, I left the business for two years.  When I returned to real estate, I went to a Century 21 office.  It was a disaster, mainly because of the manager.  After a year I gave them notice, and went to a different C21 office across town.  Much, much better.   After some time with them, I left to open my own company.

In my time with those three different offices, I encountered a lot of agents.  Some agents fit in, some did not.  It was usually the boat rockers; the ones who bucked the system, that either left voluntarily or were shown the door.

Thanks Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate you made my point perfectly. Every brokerage is different, even those under the same name like your C21 example.

Brigette's time in the spotlight was before my time. That said, I was very selective when I was choosing who I wanted to learn from/work with. I had lots of corporate experience and a lot of non-sales real estate knowledge/experience as a condo board member coming into the business- so while I didn't fully understand the sales world- I had a decent sense of what to focus on. It's now 8 1/2 years later- and I am still with the same director. We did need to switch brokers- though that was an impact of Covid leading to closing the doors to our prior brokerage (the head of our brokerage was trying to commute from Israel- and travel just shut down at that point).

Yes! We need time to make a sincere effort as the Broker made a "bet" we would fit in. The shortest time I ever gave a broker was a year Kat Palmiotti and I expected the same from those whom I had hired/taken on.
