Learning to Pivot in Uncertain Times

Our industry constantly evolves, requiring changes and adjustments to improve performance and gain a better foothold to push business in the up direction, in any market. I have thrived in more than one market shift.

Unfortunately, some people get stuck when faced with bad news or experience business disappointments. They may lack coping skills, are in denial or can be just completely discombobulated, stewing in their own juices.

Learning to pivot, gains results and greeting the day with a can-do mindset will get you there. Three things that positively impacts business:

1. Stop comparing success with others. Forget the ranking among peers, business is more than a numbers game. People know when they are being 'sold' as opposed to being guided toward home ownership.

2. Let go of toxic relationships. Negative people want more than to be heard. They bring everyone down to their comfort zone. Instead, make a conscious effort to be surrounded with positive, motivated people!

3. Give fear the boot. Push through uncomfortable situations, effectively deliver news - even bad news, pick up the phone and make important calls, it's empowering. Embrace moving forward on a daily basis!

No time to be still during any real estate market, whether the direction is up, stagnate or down. An agent must always pursue business, consistency is key and getting out in the community can be very refreshing.

So, pivot and be open to all the possibilities awaiting discovery! Or marinate in useless juices...it's a choice.

This is good advice to share.

Trump's actions could disrupt the real estate market in Montgomery County, MD. We have about 96,000 government employees in the county and a number of major federal installations.

Knowing that, savvy agent's should start marketing heavy to home owners who are currently government employees. They might have to move away due to the new cabinet coming in, future streamlining and cutting excess expenditures at the government level, Roy.

Hello Wanda - change is inevitable.  And uncertainty may be a consequence of that.  Pivoting can open possibilities.

I think if we are great at our jobs (no matter what we're doing), it's a lot easier to pivot when things change. If we're still unsure of what we're doing, it's harder to do what is necessary if something changes.

This is such good advice and there is no shortage of pivots throughout a real estate career, haha.
