Getting Ahead, or Behind, Ones Self.

I think every new Real Estate agent can relate to Timmothy's comic strip today. How many times did we get ahead of our selves... way ahead of our selves? Another thought that came to mind was looking for an illustration of someone with their head up their behinds.

Regretfully what we really should be taught about Real Estate doesn't start until we are licensed. I thing this is "ass backwards". Agents should be taught how to conduct business, their business! They should be taught bookkeeping, lead generation, networking, advertising, and more. I have always thought that it is remarkable that we can get licensed in two months yet a beautician has to have four years of training (in ND).

Prior to becoming a Broker I worked for brokers who offered NO training what so ever and I worked for others who offered some training but at the same time they pushed getting out there and start selling. In my opinion the State needs to mandate at least of year of training to include the legal stuff they already mandate but to also mandate basic business practices as well.

Good evening Bob,

You are right...what we really should be taught about real estate begins after we obtain our license and are out working with buyers and sellers! I can remember my first year and I was always thinking I'll be so glad when I've been in this business for 5 ye4ars and then I'll know more..then it became in 10 years! LOL! We never stop learning and adapting to changes!

Bob "RealMan" Timm  what a great post, now my take is Real Estate is a common sense business, client service, responding to questions in a timely manner etc. no need to train... if you have none of that no matter how much you train they will not get it:))Endre

Very well said Endre Barath, Jr. . Timmothy surprised me with this strip just because of it's originality.

I definitely believe the training programs for becoming licensed should be more about how the business ACTUALLY works. It should include discussions about clients, how to find them, how to find out what they really want, how to listen, how to put them first. It should include the business of real estate, what are the expenses, what kind of equipment might you need, how to market, etc, etc. I think training classes for real estate agents do not focus on the right things.

Amen Kat Palmiotti . It is important to know what can end us up in jail but it would should just as much be about how to succeed as a Real Estate professional.
