Wonder. Wanderful. A Journey of Thanks!
The road less traveled came to mind, as I packed the few belongings into a hard shell suitcase, much older than my years. With $75 in my pocket, I stepped away from all that was familiar and comfortable, but suffocating, into an unpredictable world that held high hopes for a bright future.
Gone were the days of being told what to do, when to do it and how to, as my parents faces faded into the rearview mirror, grabbing the heart. A bus ticket opened up seemingly endless highways to a path that held so many possibilities. My newfound freedom was met head on!
Securing a place to live, a loan for a car, a job, the work soon filled my days. Making friends, going to the gym, a second job to help pay bills. Am thankful for the resilient mindset that came because of hardships faced as a child. Had they been less prevalent, I may not have ventured out.
I'd have remained with my parents, which my mother truly wanted, begging me to stay-one-more-year. Instead, the decision was in moving on, embracing uncertainty, anticipating the adventure, heading towards the unknown. Years quickly moved, akin to the speed of sound.
There are no vacancies held in the past, only short visits before doing an about face. Looking back is the time to appreciate life lessons, special occasions filled with true affection, aha moments, friendships formed, to bring everything to present day, where it truly matters. Grateful, thankful.
Every day.
