This is my last week as an engineer/real estate agent. Friday is my last day filling the "engineer" part of my dual career life. I'm cleaning out my cube and when you've been doing this as long as I have, you collect all kinds of tidbits. Pictures of the non-digital variety complete with negatives, thank you cards, awards, device pieces from instrument lines I supported, old technology, it's all coming out of the file cabinets and drawers as I empty this cube for its future resident. There are decisions to be made, what should I keep (and that's influenced with the thought that everything I keep will need to be moved to our new house next year, or gone through again and then tossed...so skip the repeat step, right?).
Realistically, the engineering part of my brain doesn't get unplugged Friday afternoon. It's a skill set I've long used in my real estate work. Analyzing data, pricing, assessing what works and what doesn't. Where should I spend the limited time I have each day, what's the priority and what can be delayed?
If you've been blogging as long as many of us have, you're probably done some assessment too. Most of what I blogged about in the beginning would never see daylight today. Why? Because those posts didn't bring in business and they had the lifespan of newspaper in the bottom of a birdcage. I had to learn what worked and what didn't, what would have staying power, and what works for us more than anything else is niche blogging (long tail SEO, patio homes, condos, new construction, subdivisions, etc.).
I've been a regular blogger for a long time, but "regular" lately is the weekly AAA post here, not the daily creation of customer focused content. I rely on the evergreen posts of years past to feed our Wordpress site and bring us potential clients. But there's always an opportunity to create more evergreen posts. New communities are out there, and will continue to be out there. More web presence means more opportunities to catch eyes.
If you walk down your blog's memory lane, do you have evergreen posts lining the path back to you?
