Friday Flags: Official Opening of The Mountain Grill Waterbury CT
Saturday morning was a big day at the East Mountain Golf course as it was the official opening of the remodeled club house and the formal introduction to the general public of the Mountain Grill.
As we were walking down the 17th fairway, we could hear bagpipes playing songs nearby.
Then, as we were approaching the green on the 18th fairway there was a crowd assembled behind the green. For the way we had played that morning, we knew it wasn't for us.
After 2 years and a cost of over $2.5 million the grand unveiling. Just prior to the speeches, the bagpipes started, and the Waterbury CT Police Pipes and Drums band marched around the 18th green.
Full credits were offered to all the people that worked so hard to allow the restoration of the clubhouse to be completed.
As happens with the refurbishment of the interior, once the walls are opened up the true issues are exposed, and budgets get destroyed.
The crowd was encouraged to walk inside and appreciate the new interior. The new owners prepared a simple table of fare for them to appreciate the quality to be offered, and many stayed there until almost the end of the day.
The restoration was done with the intention of allowing the restaurant to operate year-round, and the menus are being prepared with the intention of having it done shortly.
As if a good omen was needed. I took a last look at the flag outside the front entrance, and the wind allowed for a final shot to be taken.
I know the anticipation is high as I am getting phone calls asking about reservations and hours of operation as the phone number for the restaurant hasn't been made public as yet.
Good Luck to the new owners and many years of making people happy.
Welcome to the Mountain Grill at the East Mountain Golf Course
