Communication is KEY in Real Estate

I have been part of many real estate transactions in almost 25 years in real estate financing.  Most of them are super smooth and the agents really work to make the transaction work for all parties.  It's great when agents and lenders do their part, title does their part, buyers and sellers are on board with providing information needed to move forward and the communication is flowing.

Sometimes that is not the case and there is a breakdown in communication between parties.  If the agents don't like or trust each other in a transaction, it can make the process much more challenging.  In that case, I do my best to step in where needed to help facilitate the info and avoid stepping over the line where, as a lender, I don't belong!  Communication is so important, even if the answer to a question is "I don't know anything yet".  It's also important to share WHEN you will follow back up to answer.  For example, "I don't know anything yet, I will reach out by close of business tomorrow with an update".  Not answering a voicemail, text or email can make you either look contentious or incompetent, or both.

real estate stress

I think you can  tell the agent's professionalism by what the client knows or doesn't know.  I think of it as the scene from the Wizard of Oz-"PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN".  The clients don't need to be exposed to the seamy underbelly of the real estate business, at least until there is no coming back or the problem is solved!

Real Estate transactions don't have to be stressful.  If we all work together we can avoid so much drama and make the process go smoothly for everyone.  My goal is always to make it look easy and be the voice of reason, when people lose their minds.  The key to that is communication.  Keep everyone informed and up to date, stay in your lane and make it work!

Good evening Bridget "Mortgage Mama" McGee ,

I love your post because my favorite local lenders do exactly what you do ....communicate! Real Estate transactions don't have to be stressful if we all communicate and work together. I'm not a drama queen and like to keep the tone to a good vibe so we have a smooth transaction! My lenders feel the same way so kudos to you for communicating and making your transactions smooth!

Well said, Bridget!!!  Things may not always run smoothly but they can be helped when there is good communication. Be positive and put personal feelings on the back burner.

Hello Bridgett - it may be impossible to make a real estate experience "stress-free" but less stressful might be a realistic goal.  At least, it starts the conversation.  And that's a good thing.

Real estate transactions should not be stressful for the clients. If there is any way we can alleviate their stress, or solve things so they aren't stressed, that's a great thing! And yes, communication is key!

Communication is so important! One of the biggest complaints voiced in every consumer survey about real estate agents is lack of communication.

Hi Bridget "Mortgage Mama" McGee

     Communication!

One scenario I have seen over the years, is Listing Agents who do not talk with their Sellers.  I have met Sellers who have not heard from their Broker or Agent in weeks.

That is totally unacceptable!   Sure, it is frustrating (as an LA) to call the Seller and say, "No calls, no showings, no activity on your property" but that is better than just going silent, not communicating at all.    Stay in touch with them!

Yes! Working together should always be the goal but sadly, ego gets in the way too often.

This is a post that speaks to the way a professional works. Information is important in any transaction. I tell all my clients that they can ask any question they want and it would not be considered foolish.

Bridget - so well said! Communication is KEY! I teach RE continuing Ed. classes and constantly stress the importance of communication. Pick up the phone and talk to one another. In real estate, the devil is in the details. Stay on top of your transactions and work with all parties, keeping everyone informed, and all working toward the same goal. Continued success to you!
