Friday Fun…So…Who Ate Too Much???

The hardest part of these large family dinners is trying to figure out what to do with all the leftovers.  I have decided to have a “You bring it, you take it home” rule.

We had 28 for dinner and a few who came over for dessert. One turkey, one ham, and a brisket. And a ton of other calorie laden side dishes. I don’t eat a lot of meat so my plate was a carbohydrate-lover’s dream.

For those of you who do a lot of cooking and meal preparation, you may relate to this…after preparing and presenting all of the food,  I eat very little of it.

So for Friday Fun…share with us…did you eat too much?

What was the favorite dish you had?

Good morning Kathy. My goal this year was to have a little of everything on my plate and not go back for seconds. It worked out pretty well but have to admit I was getting quite full by the last few bites. My wife, the cook, did not each much. She never does. She has be to polish off what she cannot finish. Not yesterday. Enjoy your day.

Hi Wayne Martin we had far too much food!!! I tried a little bit of everything! I didn't have room for the brisket and a small (very) piece of turkey and ham. My treat is Thanksgiving leftovers!!

Good morning, Kathy... I did not overeat. I had a wonderful salad, two shrimp with cocktail sauce, a small cup of squash bisque, a small wedge of camembert, one slice of turkey, one slice of ham, a small spoonful of sweet potato casserole. For dessert I had a cappuccino and a small chocolate pot de creme. And it was more than enough... I had no appetite whatsoever at supper time.

Nina Hollander, Broker that sounds delicious!!!!  We had our Thanksgiving dinner around 2:30 and that was it. No dinner for any of us.

Kathy, Oh this is easy for me as I definitely went overboard on cakes, cookies, ice cream, pies, donuts...basically, if it had sugar and a crust, it didn’t stand a chance!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 I'm with you!  We had pumpkin, apple (2), and chocolate cream pie. A birthday cake for 3 celebrating their birthdays and a sour cream pound cake. Oh yes, I forgot the brownies. Since I try to behave the rest of the year, I did splurge and have 2 small pieces of pie.

Good morning Kathy,

Okay I confess I over ate! Everything was so good and since I did not cook all of it it tasted so delicious. I ate turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries dressing & gravy and apple pie. There was a gorgeous charcuterie board to munch on before dinner and dips. And after dinner the cowboys won! A perfect day!

Hi Kathy,
You have another family gathering in the history book.
I had two full meal deal Thanksgiving dinners. One on Wednesday and one on Thursday. I was realistic in my food intake and brought some leftovers home. My favorite dish?  All of it: turkey, dressing, yams, mashed potatoes, apple pie. Did I mention the green beans? Nope. 😂

Carol Williams I just realized that we didn't have any sweet potatoes!!! I have to work on that next year.

Hello Kathy - I don't think I ate too much yesterday.  It may be years of practice that taste-testing was under control or some other factor. I feel satisfied.   Although I didn't have anything stronger than water yesterday, 20+ attendees might have altered that reality.

Michael Jacobs our final dinner headcount was 28!  Thank goodness it was warm enough that the boys could toss the football around in the backyard. We also ended up with a stray dog later but we were able to find its owner. If I were still imbibing, I would have had at least one (maybe two) LOL

Hello Kathy, we have lots of leftovers to eat today since everyone staying up at the cabins till tomorrow.  My Pennsylvania dutch oyster filling was a hit.  It was all gone.

Will Hamm I'll bet it was. My grandmother used to make two dressings, one with oysters, one without.

Well Kathy another great dinner for the books - 28!  We had one of the smallest dinners ever and it was so delightful and relaxing.  As for over eating, nope I didn't by a long shot.  I honestly really don't like turkey all that much so it was easy for me!  I did enjoy the sweet potatoes my friends  made....yummy!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I'm not a huge meat eater. I like a real turkey sandwich but rarely eat sandwiches. I'm much rather eat the sides. I was so proud of myself for making gravy!

Hi Kathy Streib

Since Pam does the cooking I have relegated myself to KP duty so I can relate to the picture you provided. I seemed to fill up quicker and barely made it to dessert BUT forced myself to a slice of Banana Cream Pie our oldest brought with him.

Hi Doug Dawes The hardest part is deciding what to do with all of the leftovers..how to divide them etc.  I had a bit of everything on my plate and then had to return for the cranberry sauce, corn salad, and marinated carrots.  I hate not trying what people bring over.

Had to have a good laugh about your rule, " you bring it you take it home" since I do not have anyone bring anything rule, my rule is you need to take a lot of leftovers home.... and ironically still have a lot at home:)Endre

Your menu sounds amazing!  Perhaps instead of everyone taking back what they brought, everyone should have to leave with a full plate for leftovers, haha.  I always love leftovers!

Hello Kathy Streib Astonishingly, I did not eat too much.  I did not go back for seconds.

No turkey for me. Like you, my plate was full of carbs.

I did indulge in a thin slice of apple pie with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and a thin slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

I ate way too much.  We had two days of feasting.  Turkey with all the trimmings on Thanksgiving.  And, then yesterday, round 2 with Turkey Ala King.

probably my favorite was the sweet potatoes - very simple - It was just my son Alex and his two boys, my husband and me - so it was a streamlined dinner -

Kathy:

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We had both daughters and their families plus my younger SIL's Mom so a total of only 11. We made far too much food and will have leftovers for another day. Hard to say what the favorite was...it was all terrific. And no surprise I (and no doubt others) ate TOO much...but isn't that expected?!

Jeff
