Top Reasons To Shop & Buy Local

Reasons to shop local on small business SaturdayDid you know that every time you spend $100 at a locally owned business, $68 remains in the community, while only $1 remains in the community when buying from a mega on-line retailer and only $43 remain if buying from a national chain?

More reasons to shop and buy local in Charlotte:

  1. You help create and keep local jobs. Small businesses have generated 13+ million net new jobs over the past 25+ years, accounting for two out of every three jobs added to the economy. Shopping local helps keep this going.

  2. You help the environment in the form of less fuel for transporting and delivering goods... much kinder to the planet.

  3. You help your community's tax base as local sales taxes get reinvested in the community.

  4. You help your community's well being. Did you know that local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of large chains? One study showed local businesses contribute 250% more!

These are great facts about Black Friday and shopping locally - I am in Connecticut with my son and his boys - maybe when we go to lunch in town I will pop into the local bookstore- you have to love a town that still has an independent bookstore on Main Street!  We are going to Wicked today - it was NOT easy to get tickets -

Lise Howe hi Lise... what's better than a local bookstore? Of course, these days I'd be happy with more bookstores in general, even if they are part of a chain! Enjoy Wicked.

Good morning, Nina.
I love supporting small, independently owned businesses. The trickle-down effect is way more powerful than most people realize.

Carol Williams it's quite amazing, isn't it, Carol... that trickle-down effect of a local business?

I saw some statistics many years ago about the effects of one real estate transaction on the local economy. It was staggering how the money continued to roll over within the economy. I would love to find some current statistics about that.

Nov 29, 2024 06:19 AM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Carol Williams good morning, Carol...it's been a while since I saw actual statistics on how a home purchase or sale trickles down to other businesses. We know it does... and I suspect it's quite a bit.

Hi Nina- we can't take for granted our local small businesses!  If you like what they sell or serve we have to keep them in our area by supporting their business. And, the owners and employees are a part of the community we live in. They go to our schools and churches. They support local events as well.

Nov 29, 2024 01:14 PM
Nina Hollander, Broker

Kathy Streib good morning, Kathy... people forget that small businesses are really the engine of our economy. American Express is a "hero" in my eyes to have started this initiative and to keep it up all these years. $201 billion spent on Small Business Saturday in 15 years is nothing to sneeze at.

I have been a huge fan of this great idea, now the question is which bookstore does Diane want to go, we have three to choose from, one in Pasadena, one in Manhattan Beach and one local in Westchester just of the top of my head and with that said knowing her it could be more than one:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. good morning, Endre... I love bookstores. Independents, chains, I don't care. When there were wonderful bookstores (way, way back in the day) on Fifth Avenue I'd often drop by and browse. Read my post later today, btw.

Nina Hollander, Broker  I saw a sign for this in Prospect but had to think real hard as to what might be there to visit aside from a restaurant and the local grocery store.

The online mega outlets are hitting hard at the stores that were once so much fun to visit, especially in this sason.
