May I Ask You a Question?

By
Real Estate Agent with Dirt Road Real Estate SA676002000

Yesterday as I was walking into a local grocery store here in Kingman, AZ, an older woman sitting in a white van called out to me and said “May I ask you a question?” My response was of course though I may not have an answer. The lady then asked as she was looking at my truck “What is a grit and gratitude agent? I have never seen that expression before.”

“Well, grit," I responded "is because selling real estate especially dirt takes a lot of grit from driving the dirt roads here in Mohave County to ensuring purchases make it through to close of escrow as there are many unknowns. As to gratitude, I am grateful for being able to travel the dirt roads, for meeting friends I did not know I had, for being able to live and work at my age and for having my family.  As an old school salesperson, I am filled with gratitude each and every day.”

The lady smiled and said thank you. She then shared she had lost her husband in 2022 and was still recovering from that tragedy. I replied, “I am sorry to hear of your sorrow and wish you the best.”  We chatted for a few moments longer, shared our first name and wished each other a good day.

As I walked into the store, my philosophical wired brain started wondering about "How many people would invest the time to answer a question from a stranger and then stay a chat for a few additional minutes? Everyone is so busy, rushing around, and thinking that they have no time or on their mobile devices ignoring the world around them."

Another question quickly popped into my brain was “How many people can answer such a question as I received or a similar one?” I know my response was authentic as I watched the expressions on this woman’s face and the genuine smile I saw when I finished answering her question.

Life is indeed short.  I believe in taking time to smell the roses, to connect with others when possible and to appreciate those momentary connections

Hello Leanne - the example you share shows me there are abundant opportunities to start conversations.  And perhaps connections or show some kindness, who knows, right?

Leanne Smith

Yes who indeed knows.  I believe kindness is part of who we are as human beings. And there are so many opportunities, we just need to stop and see them or in this case "hear" them. Thank you and Happy Saturday.

Leanne, I do think when we stop and give a few minutes to chat or answer/ask questions, please appreciate that.  We often race around and don't think of giving a stranger some time.  Good answer!

Leanne this is learned art that I am forever grateful that my Dad taught me well at a very young age.  Always be interested in others, there's a friend everywhere you are, etc etc. I swear it made no difference where we were in the country I thought my parents knew everyone!!  Ken Kruchten couldn't be beat!!  He was the best!   And you, my dear have that sweet art of caring, really caring.  It shows!!  And makes me smile!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten thank you for sharing your life experience with your father. I had a father who also appeared to know everyone as well. Maybe that is from whom I adopted my attitude.

Hi Leanne,

While selling is an integral part of the real estate process, marketing is the art of storytelling, weaving together the intangible elements that transform a house into a cherished home. It's about igniting the imagination, stirring emotions, and inspiring individuals to embark on their own journey of finding a place they can truly call their own.

Imagine a perfect piece of land, brimming with endless possibilities and dreams

Your post describes a great example of marketing your brand. To your Grit and Gratitude--Cheers!

Well Leanne Smith  not everyone has such a slogan and painted on their vehicle, hence I loved that she had the question and approached you... many would just wonder to themselves... as to answering the question I would not have expected anything less from you after all it is your niche the slogan as well as the market, Endre

Another very good observation about lonely people. My sense is when people respond with a genuine attitude, no preconceived ideas of attempting to make a sale, etc. given the question she asked, this response has a longer lasting effect on others. Good morning and thank you.

There are opportunities everyday when we are out an about to interact with people if we take the time to be aware of the people around us as we go about our day.

As side note. My son lived in Kingman for a few years, I visited him there a number of times, always enjoyed my visits to Kingman.
