This Thanksgiving was one for the books, filled with joy, laughter, and a sprinkle of new traditions that made it truly memorable!
Instead of venturing downtown to join the bustling Thanksgiving Turkey Trot with 10,000 other runners and walkers, my son and his neighbors came up with a fantastic alternative—a local Turkey Trot right in NW Hills! At 8:30 a.m., an enthusiastic group gathered at his house, setting off together and meeting up with another group just a few blocks away. After a chilly 2.5-mile walk, everyone headed home, energized and ready to focus on their Thanksgiving feasts at home.
The creativity didn’t stop there. Our Thanksgiving mural, tackled with colored pencils, became an evolving masterpiece from before Thanksgiving and throughout the day. Whether it was finished or not by evening remains a family mystery!
This year held a special milestone as well—my son John and his family moved into their beautifully renovated home just in time for Thanksgiving. We had the honor of being their first guests to "break it in." My older granddaughter Hailey and her sister Maggie flew in from NYC, along with my grandson and his fiancée (who live here), making it a true family affair.
Thanksgiving dinner was a collaborative feast. My son and granddaughter Beckett worked their magic on deviled eggs, while Beckett and her mom wowed everyone with a creative turkey-shaped charcuterie board. The pièce de résistance? A turkey cook-off! My son brined and baked his turkey in the oven, while his dad smoked his in a smoker! The verdict? Both were a hit!
With the chilly, sunny weather as our backdrop, the day was perfect in every way. New traditions, old favorites, and the warmth of being together made it a Thanksgiving to cherish.
Now a few days have passed and like Kathy Streib in her post On to the Next One I’m on to the next. Started decorating the house but had to take time to make a pan of Texas Trash to take to a friend’s house to watch UT verses Texas A & M. Go Horns! Will finishing decorating for Christmas tomorrow......
