Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 and Carol Williams are co-hosting a December challenge for ActiveRain members called ActiveRain Holiday Gift Challenge. Our goal is to share gift ideas for the person who has all the material items they could possible need (see feature photo) OR we could talk about the most unique gift we have ever received. I can't remember anything specific for the second part, so this post will be about gift ideas for those who have everything they could want.
Here are some of the ideas that popped into my head:
New Hobby:
Has the person you are buying a gift for ever mentioned a hobby they would like to learn? Did they say they wished they had taken lessons for something when young? Or they dream of being something specific, such as a potter, woodworker, graphic designer, artist, crochet expert, lathe user, musician or anything at all? If yes, what about purchasing lessons, and/or a how-to book for them. It might be enough to get them started in learning something new. You're never too old to get started!
Just in case Box:
Do you know someone who is always in their car driving from here to there and perhaps doesn't think about being prepared just in case? May you could put together a box they can throw in the back of their car that has things like a roadside flare, caution tape, small first aid kit, extra blanket, small bag of sand, fold-able shovel, socks, boots, snack bars, water jugs and anything else you could think of. What goes in the box would change based on where the person lived/traveled, and/or what they already have. This helps them and you (one less person to worry about).
A home cooked meal:
Many people don't like cooking, eat out a lot, or eat the same thing every day just to get some sustenance. What about offering to make them a home cooked meal, and you could deliver it to their house on a date of their choosing with a bottle of their favorite beverages? Or what about taking them on a picnic and you bring the picnic basket?
Help with a project:
Has the person been talking about getting something specific accomplished but they don't have the time or the help? Do they want to clean up their garage, rearrange their kitchen, get rid of clothes and bring them to Goodwill? Maybe they want to organize photos or start a scrapbook or stack firewood? Offer your time and muscle to them for something specific. Make it fun!
Fresh Flowers
Does the potential gift receiver love to receive flowers? What about arranging with a local florist for a weekly or monthly delivery for a certain period of time? Many people won't buy themselves flowers but would love to get them!
Those are the ideas I came up with in my impromptu personal brainstorming session on what to get someone who already has everything.
I hope that helps!
