I wonder what the world would be like if everyone not only practiced SMILING within their own family or circle of friends, but with anyone they meet(optional). I have yet to meet anyone that accused someone of: assault with a deadly SMILE, SMILING without a license or SMILING over the speed limit LOL
LET'S AGREE ON THIS
A person who is always smiling (fixed) or smiles at anything or for no reason is pushing the point into the Twilight Zone. Smiling, (that I am talking about), is a greeting or response of a distinct nature. Adding sound or comments optional
LET ME SET THE STAGE EVEN FURTHER
Meeting or greeting people (or not) is never going away during anyone's lifetime. When strangers pass each other, we have choices to make other than ignoring, which btw, takes effort. Here are some forms of meet/greet driven with honesty
1. Eye contact. Not staring, but a connection i.e. eye to eye.
2. Eye contact, then look away also called the glance
3. Smiles, grins, positive vibe & inviting nature
4. Verbal greeting: Hey there, hello, pal, mam, what R-U up to? How's it going
5. Silent I see you. Were done here. Whether the other sees is optional
6. Custom, in the moment, spontaneous act: laughing out loud, compliment
The above are examples of minimum acknowledging of another, known or not that allows us to practice who we are while respecting another for real reasons
I HAVE A GIFT FOR YOU
For the last few weeks, I have been giving away SMILES. Lots and lots of big, grinning, glad to see you, how ya doing SMILES and what I get in return is priceless. I don't know most of the people I give SMILES to, but I am known by them now. Whatever they are thinking of me, how bad can it be?
PREPARE TO DEFEND YOUR SELF
I notice there is no defense against a SMILE. You cannot ignore it, turn away with cause or criticize it. It does not leave you the way it found you either. You are better off for it. It is a weapon of peace and unconditional love and acceptance. It has the characteristics of a child and the innocence of one too. Play with it
STAND YOUR GROUND (when smiling)
I have gotten some interesting returns (?) from this. I smile & the other person stares with rock-like face. Others quickly turn away. Some look straight ahead. Some stare back with offense. You never know. How bad/good can it get? Read on
SPEAKING OF CHILDREN
A 2-year-old plus got me good the other day. She managed to stand, grab hold of something, turn around and lock eyes with me. Then, she gave me her SMILE. It leveled me down to her level. I SMILED back and she went for the SMILE of SMILES, the one that melts butter, and I surrendered to it. Her mother watched the whole thing and was proud as a peacock. What price do you put on all that?
WHY IS THIS GUY SMILING...? DOESN'T MATTER IS THE ANSWER
It invokes a response from the one who receives it. 7 out of 10 people will respond outwardly with a grin, a raised eyebrow, a gaping mouth, a show of teeth and gesture of approval. That 1 person I meet every once in a while, who doesn't respond, really responded within, but didn't want to share it. But I know I got ya!
TAKE THAT AND THAT and THAT!
I must admit that if you go around with a smile fixed on your face that you will not only drool, but be taken for an idiot. So, proper smiling procedure is expected. By that I mean that you must summon a specific smile in that moment for that person. No fixed grinning or holding it until you meet either. It has go down spontaneously, sort of natural, just made fresh, smile for you
WARM & INVITING
Be advised that when you SMILE and the SMILE is returned, there is a satisfaction of a sort. A connection? A giving? A statement? SMILING, & then going on your merry way is one nice enter/exit. But be ready, you never know who is coming up next...
