For this month of December, Carol Williams and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 are hosting a Holiday Gift Challenge that will hopefully spark some ideas that can benefit others. For my part, I chose Option 1:
1. Suggest Your Best Gift Idea:
Do you have a go-to gift for people who already have it all? Maybe it’s something personalized, a unique experience, or a thoughtful handmade item. Please share your idea(s), and help us all make this holiday season memorable!
I learned long ago; some people appear to have it all, while others don't really have anything to give. What I practice is celebrating the spirit of giving year-round with unexpected thoughtful ways to spread cheer to the people who mean the most to me any time or day of the year. I learned long ago, it's more important to give than receive without waiting for a calendar date or feeling pressured by marketing schemes tantalizing me to stop, shop, and buy now before the 25th of December.
When it comes to this time of year, I don't expect to buy gifts or to receive anything in return. What I give is unexpected year-round thoughtfulness, from the heart. It could be as simple as a notecard, or something I saw that I wanted someone else to have, as a reminder of how grateful I am because they came into my life. My words to them, are always enough and it never fails, they respond with appreciation for my thoughtfulness.
When it comes to following traditions, I concentrate on life lessons, knowing no one is exempt from harsh realities. I never want to make someone feel uncomfortable around the holidays. One never knows what someone is really going through. Everyone has some type of fear, including worrying about holiday gift giving when budgets are tight, sickness, memories of people who left this world, experiencing or recovering from natural disasters, feelings of rejections from not getting approved for a mortgage loan, not getting that home you dreamt about, children facing homelessness, bullying, and feelings of not being heard or accepted.
Rather than participate in gift exchanges, I concentrate on what loving things I can I do to put a smile on someone's face year-round, without any obligations for getting something back in return.
Respectfully submitted for the December 2024 Challenge.
