McAdenville, NC, also known as Christmas Town, USA, kicked off its 68th annual Christmas Light Festival this week. Through December 26th, you can visit Christmas Town, USA where McAdenville's Christmas lights will burn bright each night from 5:30 PM till 10:00 pm. And don't forget about the Yule Log Parade on December 12th, beginning at 5:30 PM. The Yule Log Parade has been a McAdenville Christmas tradition since 1949.
Why is McAdenville, North Carolina called Christmas Town, USA? Since 1956, the town has been transformed in the month of December into a "winter wonderland," featuring the biggest holiday light display in the USA with over 500,000 lights, plus hundreds of decorated, live trees ranging in height from six feet to over 90 feet, dozens of trees circling the lake in the center of McAdenville, hundreds of wreaths on lamp posts, chrono-chime bells playing Christmas carols throughout the 26 days of December, as do the chimes from the 80 foot steeple of the McAdenville Baptist Church.
Located just 15 miles west of Charlotte, North Carolina in Gaston County, McAdenville's fewer than 1,000 residents play host to over 600,000 visitors during the 26 day festival. This annual event, which has grown in popularity and scope since its inception in 1956, has been listed by both Yahoo and Time Magazine as one of the country's top 10 holiday light display destinations.
This year, McAdenville is introducing its new North Pole Park, a festive pop-up full of holiday magic where you can enjoy crafts, music, food trucks, and more. On December 7th, from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM have fun at Santa's Workshop taking pictures with Santa, making reindeer food, making ornaments. On December 31st, start ringing in the New Year at the New Year's Eve Party in the Park from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM.
Also on December 7th, the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation is hosting its annual Christmas Market featuring local artisans' handmade wares from 1:00 PM till 5:00 PM on the lawn outside the Dynamo 31 building in the heart of Christmas Town USA.
