A Letter to Cousin Faye. 💌
Â
A cross-country trip from San Diego to Georgia back in the 1960's meant financially challenging times ahead. Thankfully, we were taken in by kind relatives because life for a divorcee wasn't easy, especially with 6 children in tow.
Â
One cousin grabbed the heart immediately, though older by 8 years, Faye and I bonded for life. As a 4-year old, starting kindergarten, she walked me to school every day, holding hands the whole time and then home again.

Through much day-to-day chaos, she was steady, giving the attention that was very much needed at that time. As I grew, so did the appreciation and admiration for Faye. It's true that friends are forever and cousins are for life!
Â
Though we eventually moved away from Georgia, part of me remained. Visits were sporadic at best through the years, we remained in touch, I often reminded her how much she meant to me, always connecting at the heart.Â

My cousin Faye was a genuine soul, generous in nature with a raucous sense of humor, who loved fiercely. Her daughter Shay, an only child, was lavished in affection her entire life, their relationship true with sincere intentions.

Recently, Faye became ill and passed away on December 6th, 2024, on the same day as my mother's birthday. Her daughter posted this poem in her honor:
