NATIONAL CHRISTMAS CARD DAY: DECEMBER 9TH
DO PEOPLE STILL SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS?
"Christmas cards are tiny ambassadors of love, sent to remind us we’re not alone during the holidays."
Do you send Christmas cards? In today's digital age, the tradition of sending Christmas cards has certainly evolved with the rise of e-cards, social media greetings, and messaging apps. The volume of traditional Christmas cards has clearly declined. So do you still send Christmas cards?
I do. I've just returned from mailing some 160 Christmas cards at the post office with more to be written and sent in the next few days. Personally, I love sending Christmas cards to friends, relatives, clients. Actually, I love sending cards in general. I send birthday cards, home anniversary cards, wedding anniversary cards, graduation cards, mother's and father's day cards, Thanksgiving day cards, thank you cards, etc. Well, you get the picture. I'll even admit to loving shopping for my cards for all occasions. I love finding that special card for that special person as much as I like finding just the right gift for someone.
"Each Christmas card is a little piece of joy, connecting hearts across the miles."
One thing I've learned is how much people appreciate receiving cards in the mail from me. I think it's because they see fewer "real" cards in the mail these days. So when they get a card, it's special. To me, a handwritten card feels more thoughtful and genuine than a quick digital message. I like to think a card I send shows that I took time to think about the recipient. And I like to know when I receive a card that someone took time to think about me.
"A mailbox filled with Christmas cards is a mailbox filled with happiness."
I also love receiving "real" cards. My family and friends know how much I love getting a card and don't really care about a text or Facebook greeting. Every holiday season I love catching up on news from my friends and clients in their Christmas cards. I've just received a lovely card from clients updating me on their two children and happily announcing the arrival of a third in a few months. There’s something magical about opening a Christmas card and feeling the sender’s warmth.
