Creative Thinking

By

As children we are taught "Don't play with your food". I wonder now if that is the first stifling of our desire to be creative? What if that first hand slap was the end of a child's creative desires? Maybe Michelangelo's  greatest creations started as mashed potatoes.

I believe Real Estate professionals have tons of leeway to exercise their creative abilities. Just think of the opportunities we have in photography, creative writing, and staging.

Every day you can find wonderful examples of creativity right here on Active Rain. Everyday I am amazed and enlighten by the creativity of those who post on this site. I am thankful for all the artists here in the Rain.

Let your kids play with their food, they can stop when they fashion an anatomically correct sculpture of David.

Hello Bob - be careful when addressing children with the warning, don't play with your food.  Such stifling may end up with some wise-@$$ remarks from the creative offspring.

That is also true Michael Jacobs . Thanks for the LOL. 😁

Good morning, Bob... you are right. So often, it's parents who "beat" the creativity out of their kids.

You got it Nina Hollander, Broker . I can attest that my mother did just that and set my creative writing career back several decades by not seeing what I wrote... she only saw my spelling errors. I can thank AR and spellcheck for reviving my desire to write.

Hello Bob it is amazing what we see learn here in the Rain.   I never could play with my food when I was young.

It is Will Hamm . In an industry many would think is cut and dry it is really anything BUT cut and dry. BTW I don't think I got to play with my food either. Carol does when she is cooking. She often puts a smile on our faces when the meal is served. Most of all the kids (now adults) loved to challenge her to make unique Birthday Cakes for them.

Good afternoon Bob,

I feel there are some parents don't recognize creativity their children are expressing and move to squash it!

It happened to me with my writing Dorie Dillard Austin TX. I guess it's because as what usually happens... kids choose their own path.

Hey Bob I could never understand how some adults don't  allow their kids creative sides to flourish!  That's so nuts.  My niece that lived with us for quite a few years was very creative. Her first Christmas here she asked if she could decorate a tree of her own.  Of course....anyway you want is fine with me!  Turned out pretty good......pretty much all purple and pink and she was happy and so proud of it.  I say....bring it on!

Merry Christmas!  And stay warm up there in ND. I saw it was below zero in ND and MN.  My brother who lives in MN wasn't happy about the cold!

That's a neat story about your niece Anna "Banana" Kruchten . My hat's off to you for fostering her creativity. Very cool! And speaking of cool your brother is right. It hasn't been as bad as they predicted, 10 below, yes but we did not get the strong winds that they said would drop it to 40 below.

It was fun seeing 'that look' in her eyes! Reminded me of when my Mom let me decorate starting at a very young age.  I loved it too!

As for your weather.....I know the drill...it wasn't 'that bad;'!  I used to say the same thing when I still lived there! LOL  Cold weather sucks.  Just saying!  At least here when it's hot in the summer we can get in the pool!

Hi Bob- I wholeheartedly agree. It's as important to encourage creativity in our children as it is to teach them to read. So many of the toys and games now don't allow for much creativity.

A few years ago I let my mini-me decorate the cake we made. I just sat back and watched. It was different from what I usually do but that's the point..this was HER opportunity to be creative.

Good for you Kathy Streib as many parents hover over their children on every project and don't let them learn or create on their own.

We were not allowed to play with our food, but were provided lots of other opportunities for creativity. That being said, I do agree that stifling children's creativity can be very harmful.

Thank you Kat Palmiotti and I agree that stifling a child's creativity can/is  very harmful. I am saying that out of my own personal experience.
