Friday Fun…It Has Begun!

Pardon my flour!  For more years than I can remember, I’ve been making dozens of small carrot-raisin cakes at Christmas and giving them to friends and family.

When I started I had to hand grate the carrots. Food processors may have been out but I didn’t have one. It was a chore to grate 3 cups for just one recipe…I usually made at least 5 batches!

Now, Larry and I begin our cookie making. We have our favorites…spritz cookies…that we always make first.  We’ve made 200 of them…so far. I’ve made 2 batches of chocolate bark and 8 of the carrot-raisin cakes.

Yet to be made are sugar cookies, Mexican wedding cookies, Chocolate Crinkles and Holiday Biscotti.   If we have time, we may make gingerbread cookies.

What about you…do you do any holiday baking??

What’s your favorite Christmas cookie?

Well! I'm certainly impressed, Kathy. You and Larry make quite the baking team! I've never baked a cookie in my life that didn't burn!

Nina Hollander, Broker He's actually a good baker. When we want homemade bread, he's the one to make it.

Wow Kathy you are on the ball!  I usually make banana nut bread for everyone, and I love gumdrop cookies, bon bons, and we make sugar cookies.  I love to bake pies as well.  My husband and I love to bake - but I am not sure what all we will do this year.  We are finishing up the remodeling on our house just in time for our grand kids to arrive before Christmas.  We will get something done eventually!  Happy Baking!

Kathy, you just have to buy the premade pie crust - the ones that come in a box of 2 - you will be so surprised and impressed by how good they are!  Now I’m hungry for pumpkin pie!  I guess that is what I will be making sometime today!  Have fun

I was reading another post about Chocolate Chip cookies being the favorite from Christmas in like 40 states. We NEVER had chocolate chip for Christmas...this sounds like Christmas!

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty I agree...chocolate chip cookies, though my favorite...are not Christmas cookies. When we had cookie exchanges at Christmas in FL, those were banned.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley I can't wait to watch that game. Not sure who I'll cheer for but for Liz and Bill Spear I should pick Navy. However, then again, I think Endre Barath, Jr. would prefer we root for Army!!!

Kathy, It'll be a Go Navy day for me tomorrow (as it is every day).

Good morning Kathy,

I love that you and Larry do this together! My mom use to make spritz cookies every year growing up along with ginger cookies, chocolate sprinkles and sugar cookies! I always made Mexican wedding cakes and sugar cookies to decorate. Now I only do them with the grands!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I'd like to make gingerbread cookies this year but I'll have to see how much steam we'll have left in the engine. At some point we both may say ENOUGH for this year.

Kathy Streib I don't bake cookies as I would eat too many and gain all the weight I lost. If you have extra, I would happily send you my address. My favorite cookies are Noels, but beggars cannot be choosers

Hannah Williams ok, what are Noels??? I don't think I've seen them.

Now why am I wishing I could smell freshly baked cookies in my kitchen!  Look what you've started Kathy!   Hey!  Not sure if I'll get to cookies but I've been making a point to make muffins of yummy breakfast loafs for the contractors that have been working on our bathroom.  I entice them with the smell when they first walk in the house!   And they all seemed to really appreciate eating the goodies!  Such a simple thing to do to say thanks for your good work!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten That is such a sweet gesture. You realize they may not want to leave because the goodies are at your house! LOL

Kathy my wife makes fudge every year and gives it out to our family and friends.  The amount she makes each year keeps on growing, because as the kids grow up they want their own batch, especially the ones away at college.

George Souto that brings back memories of my 5th Grade teacher. She made the best fudge! Has your wife already started making the fudge??

Kathy, that's a massive stack of carrot cakes. I liked the view of the spritz cookies, too. My Mom used to make them for us regularly. I haven't baked cookies for a long time. We prepare a phyllo dough pastry with fortunes around New year's, and 7 or 12 vegetarian meals for Christmas Eve.

Steffy Hristova I've worked with phyllo dough just once!! I have a recipe I want to make but it uses phyllo dough and not sure if I want to tackle it for Christmas.
