One of the questions many buyers have when moving from one area of the country to another is how do I choose a neighborhood? Having moved to the Philadelphia area from London, England I can totally understand this quandary.
There are lots of different things that go into this decision, most of them personal to you. When I meet with clients for the first time I always ask them to tell me about their lives and the way they live them. What do they like doing? Depending on their answers we can formulate a plan for finding them a house.
So, let's consider the different things that can affect your choices. Do you have school age children? If so a neighborhood with sidewalks and access to local parks may be important along with obviously good schools. Maybe you want a development that has other children in it as well. Having options for different sports locally may also be important to you as a family.
What about pets? Many of us live for our pets and take a lot of consideration of them when buying a home and the neighborhood. Again, sidewalks may be important to allow for daily walks, or maybe a home with fenced yards. At least access to some places to walk our furry friend such as a park or a dog park where they can socialize with other dogs.
Do you like to eat out a lot, then maybe being close to an area with good restaurants is important, or are you more the sort who likes to entertain at home, neither answer is wrong, but it might affect where you buy.
As you can quickly see, the answer to the original question is probably a combination of many different agendas within a family including the daily commute to work. But, it is important to consider all the different points of view when making a choice and having an agent who can identify the best areas to consider.
