Thankful Thursdays…Once Again, Santa Comes Through
Earlier in the month I wrote about a special Christmas memory that involved a visit from Santa Claus.
When I see Santa or recall memories of him, my heart fills with joy. I’ve watched The Santa Claus starring Tim Allen well over a dozen times.
I mentioned having to recruit another Santa for our family Christmas Brunch because our neighbor, who has been Santa since 2020, is ill. *
My thoughts went back to 2020 when he first came to our house on Christmas Day.
You remember 2020, don’t you?! We were fortunate that Texas and Governor Greg Abbott began reopening restaurants, retail stores, malls and movie theatres on a limited bases in May, 2020.
Larry and I dropped off baked bread and cookies to our family members and friends…we stayed in the driveway and we all kept our distance. No one was paranoid but we also wanted to play it safe.
By Christmas of 2020, we made a choice to have a small (14) part of our family over. The children were already a bit down because the whole family could not get together. The youngest ones were disappointed that they could not "see" Santa as they had in the past. I decided that Santa would make an appearance this Christmas. My neighbor jumped at the chance to don the suit!
No one, not even the parents, knew he was coming. The look of joy and surprise on the faces of the parents was worth it all.
Needless to say, the wee ones jumped for joy.
What can I say…once again, Santa came through and lifted our hearts and spirits.
They err who thinks Santa Claus comes down through the chimney; he really enters through the heart.

In the eyes of children, we find the joy of Christmas. In their hearts, we find its meaning.

*By the way...I did recruit someone to be Santa!
