Friday Fun…Fan or Not So Much

Ha, after Larry bought a fruitcake the other day, I told him he was the only one that actually likes these!

Hello Kathy - my memories of fruitcakes were long associated with jokes about them rather than the actual product.  After a taste of a mediocre one as a child, I avoided them until I had another in adulthood that was quite delicious.  All "fruitcakes" are not created equal. I speak from experience.  Now, I have a craving. . .  

I do think Fruit Cake has a bad rap. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your upcoming weekend! Bill

In England we have Christmas Pudding which is full of desiccated fruits and often some rum, brandy or both. I love Christmas Pudding, but we also used to have a Christmas Cake, which was a fruit cake covered with a Marzipan Icing, which I did not like. But depending on the cake I do like a fruit cake, as long as it is moist and no icing.

I started remembering my folks would get fruit cakes and we tried them most of them but I soon learned they were too sweet and heavy so often fell in the group who reveled in jokes about them!

OK, I admit it...I can't stand fruitcake or virtually anything that has dried fruit in it...lol

I understand the history of fruitcakes, but they have outlived their purpose. 😂 Unlike chocolate, I've never had a fruitcake I like.

And, if I ever get married again (which I won't) remind me not to do it in New Zealand. 😂

I was not aware of National Fruitcake Day. I have aways liked fruitcake. I recall those made my my grandmother when I was a kid. 

Hello Kathy, just not a fan of Fruit Cakes but I know of people that love them and look forward to getting them.

Yuck! I have never had a piece of fruitcake I liked!  It always seemed really old and stale and could be it was a year or so old and people kept re-gifting!!

Nope, not a fan. It's been years since I had any and I have no plans to change that.

Kathy-  I enjoyed reading about your FRUIT CAKE FRIDAY.  I have never enjoyed a slice of fruit cake.  A few years ago, I watch a tv 'documentary' on the multi-million $$$ fruit cake business. If I recall correctly, the documentary showed case the Collin Street Bakery.  I wasn't aware that the history of fruit cakes dates back to 2000 BCE. These type of tidbits is what makes your Friday Fun, fun. Thanks for sharing.  Joe

I remember having to sell fruitcakes as a kid and I think most people only bought them because some kid was at their door selling it, haha.

My mother used to make fruitcake. Yuck. I am not a fan!

I couldn't tell you the last time I even saw a fruitcake. I'm not a fan of cakes with alcohol in them, so wouldn't want one with that ingredient. 

The few that I’ve tried just had a taste that I didn’t like. My wife thought me to not eat calories that you don’t like …..
