Looking for a way to recycle your holiday tree in Austin and Travis County? Starting December 26, both the city and county are offering convenient, free options to help you dispose of your natural Christmas tree responsibly!

Here’s how you can join in on the festive recycling efforts:

In Austin:

  • Curbside Pickup: If you're an Austin curbside customer, simply place your tree at the curb by 5:30 a.m. on your composting collection day. It’s that easy—just make sure all decorations, stands, and other non-tree items are removed.
  • Drop-off at Zilker Park: You can also bring your tree to Zilker Park for drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4-5.
  • After the trees are collected, they’ll be mulched, and starting Jan. 8, you can pick up free mulch on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 9 a.m..

In Travis County:

  • Five drop-off locations are available daily from Dec. 26 to Jan. 12, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for tree recycling.
  • If you have up to 25 trees to dispose of, bulk drop-offs are available—but be sure to schedule them in advance! Contact the East Service Center at 512-854-9114 or the West Service Center at 512-854-8140 to set up a drop-off appointment.

Recycle your tree and help the environment—this simple step is a great way to close out the holiday season on a green note!

I have been all in on recycling for many years. I just read an article that makes it seem far less advantageous than I thought.

Hi Dorie Dillard Austin TX  we have not had a live Christmas tree in over 12 years, since one of our cats decided to hug the tree and you can imagine how that turned out...hence we always have the horizontal Christmas tree, and I pack it up around January 6th:)Endre
