The other day I ran into someone I hadn't seen in a while. I knew they had placed their multifamily home on the market 6 months ago. Naturally, I asked how the process was going. It was shared that they had 1 offer (after they adjusted the listing price) but the transaction fell through due to home inspection issues. It seems the buyer didn't understand or wasn't prepared to be an owner of a multifamily home (2-family). Instead, they opted to find a newer single-family dwelling. It seems the number of repairs needed, (which the seller offered to fix) scared them off and caused them to realize they weren't ready for life in an older period home, which New England has an abundance of.
Being prepared to be a buyer also includes a complete understanding of what is included in ownership, like repairs. As Realtors® we need to educate our clients in all aspects of being prepared for home ownership
Whatever season it is, be a good Scout and be prepared if you are going to enter the active Real Estate market as a buyer or seller.
