Returning to College or University This Month
I don't know what the rental situation is where you are, but there seems to be a shortage of student rental properties in the greater Baltimore area.
I recently received a call from a student looking for accommodations for himself and a friend. The rental property I had listed wasn't suitable, but I suggested Airbnb, VRBO, or Furnished Finder, and he said, "No, I need it for the whole semester."
I rent rooms through Airbnb, and I prefer long-term stays of 3-6 months or longer. It is less wear and tear on my home, less work, and a stable income. Not only that, Airbnb collects the rent and directly deposits it into my bank account for a small management fee. I know that the money will be there, and I know that if there is a problem, Airbnb will take care of it. I have had many students stay with me over the 8 years that I have been doing Airbnb and it has worked out extremely well.
Many Airbnb homes offer kitchen and laundry privileges, parking, security, and safety for the guest (public reviews). And, when you return home at the end of the semester, you aren't paying rent for a time when you aren't staying in the property.
Airbnb-type properties offer a great alternative to dorm life. If you are a student returning to college life in a few weeks or a parent of a student returning to college life and having a problem finding accommodations you may want to consider one of these platforms. There is a large variety of types of accommodations available.
