The Pondering Path of Planning

A January 2025 AR Challenge Entry. . .

Pondering can take many paths. So can the process of planning.  While I have left real estate as a daily practice my interest in the industry remains. I am grateful for the opportunity this community continues to offer to those of us who wish to continue to participate.

But like any place, the AR community is diverse.  Different goals. Strategies and reasons for involvement too. All on display to see. At least to those who choose to make sense of it. Let me tell you, it's been an experience. While I don't know about times yet to arrive, I have learned much throughout my membership.

And like that previously mentioned "real" place, there is change happening around ActiveRainLand. This occurs even as some discussions remain a “constant”.  Points, the leaderboard and many sorts of issues continue to "live" among us. Maybe that’s an AR equation that can compute even for the most mathematically challenged among us.

Planning to me certainly includes collecting data as well as information from the past. As we attempt to understand its relationship to the present and consider the future, the effort is an undertaking that brings together many sorts of actions. Yes, mixing, meshing and messing up my relationship with the concept of combinations is something I have repeated often.

Specificity is wise and obviously necessary. However, one’s mindset continues to provide a direction that may not be unstoppable but has a powerful potential.  While I may not always be successful in this path it can provide a roadmap open to detours.

Admittedly, there is nothing novel in this approach to the January challenge co-hosted by Leanne Smith and Will Hamm. But I continue to travel on this trail that is uniquely my own but not so uncommon that similarities cannot be gleaned by each of us. In this community and on planet Earth. That is my ongoing story. A plan-in-progress.

A plan in progress...or in my case, SO MANY plans in progress. That little voice in my head is never silent. Staying busy is many times my way of reducing the anxiety.

Michael I was so happy to see another Pondering post from you when I popped on AR! You always do a fantastic job of helping all of us to stop, consider, and reflect and this post has done that once again.I am more than grateful for all the pondering paths I've taken in the rain since 2006.  None of us knew 'really' where we were headed with it and perhaps some still don't.  I don't know.  I just know I'm glad I am a member  and continue to be on now that I have retired from RE.

Definitely good points to ponder. Having a plan is more often "fluid" than set in stone for sure.

Dr. Paula McDonald - although I am sometimes reluctant to use the word/term "fluid", it is a valid description at times. Happy Friday.

I do think pondering has a place in the planning process whilst one thinks through goals, and strategies.

Hi Michael- your word-smithery and pondering have given us much food for thought. So much so that carving out pondering time has become a habit for many. I look at myself as a life in progress, which is better, to me, than the alternative.

Michael Jacobs

Kathy Streib - adaptation and adjustment certainly help avoid the alternative.

Hello Michael,

I admire your unwavering commitment to ActiveRain. Personally, I've struggled to stay connected with the community as real estate is no longer my passion. But seeing your posts and interactions with others reminds me of the positive impact this platform can have.

Aura Alex - there are aspects of real estate that have stayed with me - my posts have evolved.  Thank you and being a member means I have access to people like you.

Sometimes, I struggle to connect with posts that fail to grab my attention (but never yours). It can feel like a duty to respond rather than a genuine longing for connection. Yet, I realize this is all part of the ups and downs of navigating social media.

It's time (for me) to reflect and make some adjustments for the year ahead.

Michael Jacobs

Aura Alex - I understand.  There have been plenty of peaks and valleys in my AR travels.  Reflection is a good thing in my opinion. Best of continued success of that pursuit.

Hi Michael,

I guess that's why I haven't seen much of you the last few years. I retired 4 years ago and haven't been on here much lately but do like to check in every now and then to see how everyone is doing. I hope all is well with you and you are not being affected with these fires. It's very sad to see what is going on.

Jan 10, 2025 06:33 PM
Michael Jacobs

Steve Higgins - I have self-evacuated away from Los Angeles County after the start of the fires this week.  Although I don't use the "R" word as in retire or in the Realtor trademark my life changed in December 2017 when I survived a stroke and heart attack.  Talk about learning of combinations I hadn't planned,   So life goes on. . .    Glad to "see" you in the Q&A section which I visit on occassion since that seems a place some members visit more than the corner coffee shop or Tim Horton's.  😃

We ponder, analyze, adjust, observe, repeat the cycles and decide how we can best interact with ActiveRain and get the results we want.  For some it works, for some it doesn't.
