Don't Forget To Take Off Before You Take Off

I'm very sure no one reading this owns their own B-52  and needs an engine cover for it. If I am wrong and you also have a jet engine cover it would be a good idea to take this winter cover off before starting your engine.

It's much more likely you have an Air Conditioner and an Air Conditioner cover. If you are new to North Dakota winters let me clue you in... it's better to remove the AC unit out of the window and into the basement then it is to put a flimsy plastic cover over it and say "good enough". Depending upon the size of your window AC unit you may not be able to remove it. If you leave it in the window and use a cover on it for the winter you want to remove the cover before you reactivate the Air Conditioner.

If you want to store your window A/C unit right I made a video about it many years ago.

Good morning Bob. Can remember the days of window units and removing them in winter. Was never a fan of covers but did have a few situations where it was the logical thing to do. In your area removal and storage, when possible, makes the most sense. Stay warm Spring is coming. Enjoy your day.

Thank you Wayne Martin . We have about the smallest size available but they still weigh enough that if Timmothy moves off on his own I may have to seek help getting it out of the window and down the steps.

I always disliked window units since they blocked the airflow/view. In one of my homes, I had the A/Cs that went in the wall. Those came with a cover that had some insulation inside, so we just put those on when it got cold out. That worked pretty well. HVAC systems are even better!

Good points to be sure Kat Palmiotti . We have one in our bedroom and the only view it blocks is our dog looking out or peeping Tom's looking in. It's pretty much the same for the one in our living room but a little more obstructive.

Good morning, Bob... great advice. Of course, I can't remember the last time I actually saw a window AC unit. :)

Good morning Nina Hollander, Broker  , my Love. I think they are popular here because we hardly need them more than 30 days total a year and the are a lot less expensive then a full system.

Good Morning Bob "RealMan" Timm

Next winter I will need a new A/C cover for our a/c. I patched up the existing cover only to hold it over til ordering a replacement. AND yes engine covers are important for some military airtcraft

Good evening Doug Dawes . I have purchased a couple for a grill and a fire pit. They were okay for a couple of winters but I didn't spend much and they didn't last long.

Your practical advice on preparing for winter is spot-on and truly appreciated, Bob "RealMan" Timm. It’s those little reminders that keep us from making costly mistakes. Thanks for sharing your insights—keeping our air conditioners in check is definitely something we can’t overlook!

Thank you Lew Corcoran . When you live near an Air Force base and you have oil workers coming up from TX you have to prepare them for a real climate change. 😉

I have thought about upgrading for years Endre Barath, Jr. but for our short summers and the cost of adding central AC I've stayed with the window units.

That's another thing that I don't like about cold weather, so I will likely never move away from the sunshine, haha.

I can understand that Brian England but when it's really cold we don't spend anymore time out side as you probably don't spend much time when the temp is over 90. 😊
